Deer Hunting in Rhode Island

Postby JTR » Tue May 06, 2014 5:29 pm

Well I'm taking the plunge next season and getting my RI hunting license. I took my bow hunting safety class last weekend, so I'm good in that regard (just a side note, I'm always cocky going into a mass wildlife hunter safety course, but I always end up learning something). My question is for guys that have experience in both states. What are the real differences between laws in the two states and what should I be mindful of going down there? Anything and everything that is different will help. Also, I might grab a waterfowl permit, so anything that is specific to water fowling would be helpful too. Thanks!

That's my motivation for doing it. Plus the extra month of hunting. Working in an office 5 days a week made my Sundays a hell of a lot more valuable.

Many differences deer hunting in RI:

Sunday hunting
Mid Sept - End of Jan VS archery
Muzzle loader early Nov (Rut) RI
3 bucks + 4 does (z1)
X-Box inclusion
Mail in deer check (not during ML)
Higher densities of deer

Anyone know if tags for either antlered or antlerless deer will still be available during the season. Or should I just pony up and pay for a few when the application period begins? Thanks

Deer tags are available all season - They usually go on sale 5 minutes before the season starts ;)

There were town with Sunday restrictions, but there is plenty of public land with deer. You do need land owner written permission for private land.

Looks like buck were reduced this season to two - I will need to double check

What's permission? Don't we just tell people when and where we are going to hunt their land?
