I miss Ducks

Postby AvianAddict » Thu Feb 02, 2017 10:18 pm

I've been on vacation in San Diego for the past week and have seen tons of ducks! Every marsh I drive by is studded with ducks. The mission bay has been loaded with scaup and I've also seen some brant. I've never seen a brant before. Saw some spoonies and gadwall today too. Anywhere we go on the ocean side has had plenty of scoters! Pretty awesome to see ducks I don't normally see back home.Image

Plenty down the south shore and cape. Check out the park near the Plymouth landing. They are feeding there all the time'

above are my last two hunts of 2016-2017 season. I guess I miss the ducks, and now I even miss the geese. im getting the urge to head out to some of my spots and beat up on some crows in the off season as a scouting/practice shooting moving birds tool. skeet is nice but a real live bird is just a hair different.

yeah, I'm pretty determined to pop one in Massachusetts this year. ive got the flexibility to get out and find them so I shouldn't have an excuse. AA, we should find some place in between us to take a look.

is shooting crows a sufficient alternative? I understand the season runs for a while yet. do I have to use steel over water? theyre not migratory game birds...and I don't think I shoot enough to really make a dent in the pollution levels.

Can't find anything that says you need steel.

I've been seeing a group of ringnecks on a local pond the past couple of days. Seems like birds are heading back north. Drake ringnecks fully plumed are beautiful birds!
