Haven't taken ducks all that seriously yet, avoiding morons for the most part this early in the season. 3 trips, 0 birds on 0 shots but still had a good time. Going to get real serious this weekend, think the jerks are pretty much gone now.

i live on an island at the mouth of Lake Erie and there are many other islands near by and yes i was hunting on big water i was hunting a island and the divers and puddlers were moving. And the 21 geese and 8 mallards are your totals becuase i would of liked to shoot 21 geese in the early seasons.

We hunt near Albion and have a real good field for geese the farmer is the first to cut silage so they pile in. Actually killed most from OCt 1-16 but had two days of limits early season. The mallards were 2 limits the 1st two days the same farm has a cow lot that the mallards feed in but after I shoot them a few times they don't come back.

I fish the mouth of lake erie always looks like a great spot for ducks

We've done fairly well since opener we've got
2 shovelers
10 woodies
10 greenies
2 goldeneye
4 teal

So all in all its been good, I must say I have not been seeing or hearing very many hunters, kinda sad, not that I like a ton of company but it seems this newer generation of people are not into hunting like mine is.

Partner seems to have bailed on me today, never even heard from him :pissed: . Instead went scouting deer and turkey but walked a drainage creek for ducks as an excuse. 2 Woodies and a drake on 4 shots, it's a start. Heard Turkeys, saw 7 does, a 4pt and an 8pt, all within easy range, not bad in an hour.

Having a good season so far

Postby Brydog » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:06 pm

The season started out great, then slowly started to die out. Need some crappy weather to bring some flight birds down.
2 - Ringnecks
3 - Black ducks
10- Greenheads
3 - Susie Q's
17 - Woodrows
3 - Honkers
11- Woodcock
2 - Ruffed Grouse
0 - Whitetail Deer
5 - Whitetail deer passes

So ,,,,not too bad so far. Its just the "Dawg" and I this year.

Happy Huntin fellers!

Only a few woodies and some mallards. Its seems like most ducks are on the beach getting some rays while the weather is still warm

Think the locals we're still dealing with have figured something else out. Last few trips, instead of flying fairly high and getting multiple barrages by the anti-aircraft batteries of skybusters they're flying on the deck shortly after or before dawn and right along the shoreline. Nearly been decapitated by Woodies and Mallards a couple of times. They're quiet, cruising to where they want to be and on you before anything can be done. Really tough to see with all the color in the trees along the shore on smaller waters now. Not much of a fan of pass shooting but that's what it's amounting to if you can see them in time.
