Anyone else have a crappy goose opener? We seen one flock all morning and heard about 3 gun shots....

Ours was actually pretty decent, shot 9, would have had our 15 limit within the first hour if we were a bit less rusty :sniper: . That being said, we didn't hear any gun shots other than ours and didn't see any birds except the ones flying off the roost lake right next to our field. Pretty dead otherwise.

Today wasnt so good. One bird. Had 15 land JUST outta gun range. Saw some small groups in the distance, overall, a slow morning. Got checked by a CO as we pulled out on the road and had 10 drop in while he was chicking us. :lol3: He reported slow hunting for all the hunters he checked.

It has been decent in the NLP. I have hunted twice, once in a pasture and once on the big lake and have killed nine birds. The first volley of the season myself and my hunting partner both shot triples, that was very exciting! Have spent most of my time scouting ducks and I think its going to be a great season!

Our opening day turned out to be a bust. There were over 100 birds in the field the day before. The only group that came in on Thursday short-stopped us by 300 yards. It was foggy, there wasn't any wind, and it turned out so hot. That's early season hunting for you, I guess.

What is sad is that the early goose opener is coincidentally the last hunt of my 2011 season. School really get's in the way of what's important sometimes

We killed 7 on the opener, been hunting the crap out of the same field, they keep coming so we keep hunting. Between me and my uncle we have harvested 16 this year, not too bad considering the geese in the area. Now that school has started next thing i have to look forward to is oct 1st.

Only had time to hunt one morning, Tried the new Blindside 3.5" BB from Winchester. NOT IMPRESSED at all. Shot 3 times dropped 5 geese. only one hit the ground dead. The others required several follow up shots and they were no more than 40 yds out. One ended up getting back in the air and way out in the field but my dad got him the next morning when he came walking back to the pond. I found pellets in the feathers that did not even penetrate. these were all 9 to 11 lb birds. My dad was shooting #2 Federals and dropped his dead.

Broke my early season curse with pulling a band on the 2nd to last day of the season.... Had to move over to the big water and get away from the un-cut fields.
