Banded Birds!

Does anyone know if Geese are still being Neck Banded in Michigan or any stats on michigan Waterfowl banding at all?

You have a good question about the neck collars, I haven't seen one in years around here. It will be interesting to see if we can come up with some stats.

I think they stopped, using neck collars.

Awhile back, I read somewhere that the neck collars were building up ice and choking the birds.
There are only two types of people in the world, those who love duck hunting and those who never have duck hunted.

thats what i thought i heard but i wanted to make sure..... I hope they will start at some point here again. I need to shoot me a neckband before i die! :hammer:

Not likely, with the choking thing.

I was told by the DNR that they stopped several years back with the neck collars due to them killing the birds. I was told the the water builds up and freezes in the collars and then more water / ice which expands and can actually choke the birds. Not sure if those are the only facts involved but It seems to make sense. I have only scored one collar and it has holes in it from the shot.

I think the holes add to the collar, and that is pretty sweet :thumbsup:

2 of those bands are consecutive numbers out of one flock. I keep the ones with special memories in a drawer so I do not loose them.

thats nice i have only been on one hunt were a collar was killed and that was in missouri and it was on a speck :thumbsup:
