Dream Bird?

Postby WoodyWhiffingMG » Wed Oct 10, 2012 9:16 am

I was just thinking to myself, what is the number one bird I would like to take this year.

For me:
It is between NA Widgeon, Pintail, or Red Head.

What bird species do you all want take this year?

I think a nice big drake pintail would be cool. I love shooting green heads though.

I have actually been thinking about this quite a bit. I am thinking that a nice bull sprig pintail would be nice. I shot an immature drake years ago, but couldn't tell what it was until the biologist told me.

A mature sprig is definitely my bird that is on the top of my list.

I had a couple days in Quanicasee about ten tears ago that we shot some dang nice pins. I had two wrapped up ready to mount and my hunting partner says 'we will get better ones on our Texas hunt' that was coming up in a month. Heck, thatwas the only reason my father went was for a good pintail. We got mostly immatures and mallards while we were down there. Kinda sucked that those others had gotten ate up instead of left in the freezer.

I have had a lot of full color red heads, Mallards, pintails, woodies and even Shovelers but have never scored a Can. I want a full color canvasback to have mounted. To me, that is the trophy of Waterfowl

No hanging a pair on the wall would be sweet... Drake hoods are great looking birds.

Then you need to spring/summer. They are the opposite of most ducks. You can not get a colored up one during a Michigan season.

The lake my summer/fishing cabin is on gets loaded with hoodies and commons every late oct/early nov. I try and make a trip up there every fall to chase them. I can usually get my 2 hoodies and 3 more commons in an hour or so up there. I put out 4 goose decoys and a spinner and the come rocketing in every time. Never got one mounted though. Might have to think about it next year.
