Have 20 acres on a river that holds lots of mallards, geese, and some divers. I want to plant corn or some other crop for them for the coming season. I have never done much farming before and was hoping for some advice from you guys.

Is it open area? You need plenty of sun for corn. You also should have the soil tested and fertilize properly. Corn will grow in bad soil but not very well and will not produce well if it does not have the proper light, water and soil. there is a seed that I used one year called waterfowl rice that I just broadcast on about 2 acres and it grew with no work at all and the geese loved it. but so did the turkeys and deer.

Do you have any farm equipment or know of someone who does?? If not you might be able find a local farmer to plant it for you. If its corn you want and you have good soil they might want to plant and harvest it and will pay you. Just make a deal that they have to have their crop off by a certain date.

How high is on high ground becuase ideally you could use the river as a source to flood that feild and then let water back out when your done doing a natural moist soil draw down Wich will produce millet an duck weed. Both ducks and geese llove wild millet and deer don't really mess around with it. If your thinking u can plant crops then become a wild turkey federation member and u can get no harvest seed for next to nothing plant it and just brush hog it down when ready to hunt we do that in a couple of our spots other wise if u wanna flood that feild make sure an check with dnr so u don't get fined been there u don't want that there are certain ways u have to do stuff like that and try will let ya know good luck should be fun either way ya go
