Last Day Of Early Season

Postby quackerkiller » Mon Sep 18, 2006 6:27 pm

I went out the last day of the early season by myself. I'll i have to say is there were birds every where. I killed my limit out of one flock and got this nice little band.
The goose was 10 years old and was from Ohio.

Very nice, we killed 24 and got some sweet fotage. Also killed a 1000 series band which was kind of cool since nobody in our group had one yet.

How did you find out the band info already? I shot a goose with a band on the September 1st in VA and called it in that afternoon and still have not got the certificate in the mail.

I got skunked for the first time of the year on the last day of the season. Had a field holding 75 birds in it the night before, but they never showed up the next night. Pretty disappointing, but it happens.

go to www.michigandnr.com and then go to the dnr site and look at the waterfowl area for regs. and then go to report a band it will tell you right then how old and when it was banded and you don't have to be from mich to use it its the USGS site.

Naw, I work up here at the U. I have to drive by Huron High School every day and I see all those birds next to the baseball field. Yesterday I saw one green neck collar and counted 7 leg bands.

We kill quite a few bands, so we know all of the numbers.

BANDS

Postby redoakstar » Fri Sep 22, 2006 2:52 pm

IS IT BEST WHEN YOU TURN IN A BAND # TO TELL THEM YOU SHOT THE GOOSE ON THE ACTUAL DATE OR LATER IN THE SEASON?

A LOT MY FRIENDS THAT HUNT THE THUMB WILL ONLY TURN IN A EARLY SEASON BANDED GOOSE # POST DATED OR DONT TURN THEM IN AT ALL

THEY SAY THE MORE MIGRANT GEESE SHOT IN THE EARLY GOOSE SEASON WILL BE STRICTER BAG LIMITS.

WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY HERE?

THERE ARE STILL WAY TOO MANY GEESE IN THE EARLY SEASON BUT OUR BAG LIMITS HAVE DROPPED

Actually, most information that is gathered from bands is based on money bands. This is because they know that not everybody reports all of their bands, but almost everybody reports their money bands.

However, if you know it is a migrant band it might not hurt.

I shot a goose with a 100 dollar money band last year, i havent reported it yet. I forgot about until last Saturday, i was on a goose hunt on a private farm near Ridgetown Ontario, the fella i was hunting with was looking at the bands on my lanyard and asked if i collected the reward. I dont think i'll report just because i forgot about it. The band was from Maryland. I always report my Jack Miner bands.

You guys near U of M. Have you seen the flock that feeds on Plymouth Rd., across from Carsons, Pfizer has a demolition site, the geese and deer are thick feeding on vegetation. Aside from the geese, i'd love the chance to deer hunt on U of M campus!

I saw a monster 10 point in a park just off Geddes right there by the soccer fields. There is a lot of wildlife right in there with the Huron River.

I often see does running thru the parking lot here at Pfizer. There is a lot near the Huron. I fly fished the Huron a few times last year and saw deer on every outing.
