Saw a group of Canvasbacks on Pere Marquette lake today. I also saw a few rafts out on Lake Manistee. I don't see too many divers where I hunt though, on the South Branch of the PM farther inland.

Everyone is saying the birds are a few weeks early, even the salmon are supposly running a few weeks early in the north? So far we have seen bills, redheads, ruddies, a couple cans, 3 scoters (yes they were scoter I have shot enough of them to know what they look like and have shot several right here around home) .As far as layout shooting goes I'd definitly give it at least a few weeks, unless you want to go to the Detroit River and maybe get a few bills and lots of coots  It's not worth it until the birds arrive in numbers and stage, even though we always do it way to early each year

Gunner ya'll will be locked up before we are down here I'm sure, perhaps we might have to do a little swap, you know me and a buddy or 2 come up there wack at em, then you come down here later on and shoot at the ones that got away?We have this problem of hooking up our layout rigs and traveling to various new and old destinations
