How did ya'll do this opener? We killed two geese. We slept in the marsh to get our spot too. But it was a great time and I'm am not done for the weekend. shoot em up.
Not seeing too many geese at all around here. Just a few flocks in a couple fields that don't allow hunting Went out to one spot they'd been using some what frequently throughout the week and hiked in carrying all our gear about 1 mile each way and got skunked Been seeing lost of good duck numbers though so we might just stick to fishing/duck scouting until the geese cooperate a little more. Good luck and send them North for me!
this mourning 4 other guys took me out and we rocked em. we got ten and was suprised how even though geese were just shot at they would still circle and come right back. Great hunt.
Good hunt. Meat is in the freezer. Seen hundreds of birds first day just could not get em to decoy right. Saturday the birds that we saw are now in the freezer.
We took four total over the weekend. We had a great chance of limiting out Saturday night, until some moron couple threw their boat in the pond we were hunting and decided to fish right in the middle of it. We had four different flocks fly in and you could tell they wanted to land, until they saw the boat. They all flared and we only had a shot at one flock. That's the problem with public land - it's public.
But at least we didn't get completely skunked, and this was our first year goose hunting. We learned a few things this weekend and we'll only get better from here on out.
So were you guys field hunting or hunting over water?
It,s been a long hot dry summer in the u.p., many small ponds and small creeks are drie, and the small remoat lakes i hunt .you canteven get a canoe in to them, too hot for the birds to fly much! need lots of rain and cooler days before the early opener ends.B.J.
We hunted the morning until it got to hot, then helped pull siding from the house, then hunting in the afternoon. I actaully got sunburn, it was nasty warm. Its hard to catch a nap in the blind when its so hot.
My dad and I hunted over a small decoy spread on the bend of a river. I got three (one in the morning, two in the evening) and he got two (in the evening).
I used 3" Bismuth B's for the first time and was really impressed.
I didn't exceed the daily limit of three birds. I shot a total of three opening day, my dad two. I just double-checked my reg. book- I got worried when I saw your response to my post.
Two seasons ago my dad, friend and I watched two guys kill over their limit of woodies then throw the hens in a ditch. We confronted them, called the DNR with their licence plate and never heard another thing about it.
In short I can relate to being on the lookout for people who blatantly break the rules.
