Does anybody hunt at the GMU in Muskegon? I've never done it, but wanted to here what people had to say about it or how it all works. I'm used to gong to Allegan GMU quite a bit. Anything like that? I know it's water...have to have a boat? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
I'm interested in the same thing. (Muskegon Waste Water Unit) To me, the map doesn't look like it's over water etc. I think Allegan has a area on the river that is over water. I've never hunted in any of these organized areas, and have wondered how it works and if it's worth it.

No water to hunt at MWW...unless there is a puddle in your zone. I've been hunting there for the last few years with some friends from that side of the state. It's all ag-field hunting (corn, beans, winter wheat). The zones are big...so plan on the possibility of having to hump your gear for quite a distance...and you cannot drive into the zones.
It can be a bunch of fun if you pick the right zone. I'll be there October 20th and 21st. Can't wait. Call Nick at the DNR station...he'll give ya' the skinny.
I suggest you scout prior to your hunt...and keep in mind which way the center pivot irrigation arm is moving...and set up accordingly...'cuz that ain't just water they are spreading...
This isn't the Todd Farm....the combat hunting element is non-existent...as the zones are huge...but you must be aware of which fields the birds are using or you run the risk of watching those birds fly away from you....
They can draw a ton of zones. Something crazy like 79 or so...
Each zone number has an "A" and "B" side to it. Look at the area from Google Earth and you'll see lots of big circles around the MWW reservoir. Those are the zones, and they have a chart in the office which shows the dividing lines.
I like to hunt the afternoons there....11:00am draw...enter zone at 1:00pm. Not too many guys at the PM draws, but the AM draws are busier for sure.
I live 4 hours away...so making the 5:15am draw is a stretch for me.
