2013 season recap

Postby goosehunter63 » Sat Mar 29, 2014 11:02 am

So, if all of you are like me I am missing season already, so to help us get past our off season blues, i am going to do a little recap of how my season went.

It all started off on opening day of early season, we got to the field at 3:30 because we knew their were other parties that had permission to the field. Sure enough by 3:35 their was another party at the field, since we already had 7 people in our group we could let them hunt with us. Our first bird of the season just happened too be banded (our one and only of the season), and we ended shooting 22 on opening morning. It was one of my most memorable hunts of my life, as I was finally able to have a great hunt with my dad, as well as getting a first timer into the addiction. I rounded out my early season with 42 geese, and then has the 3 week wait until regular season.

I opened up regular season out in the duck blind, and we got skunked on opening morning, a first for me. We went back out that night and ended up with a few birds. Sunday morning I was back out in the field and we shot our limit of geese. It was a couple more weekends until I got back out because of being at college. But when I got out me, my dad, and two buddies made our annual pilgrimage out to a reef about a 1/2 mile off shore. We got into the birds with the and majority being buffies, although we did end up with black duck, and shot some mergs as well. It was another memorable hunt, as we sat through a monsoon for an hour of it. We made our way back out to the blind the next morning, and got into a few birds.

Then came the ice, our blind was basically locked up, but we did have an opening out front, so me and two buddies made our way out, we shot a few birds, but not without making it out scotch free. I slipped and nailed my knee on a rock, and my other slipped and went under water.

We never did get in a snow hunt for geese in the fields, as once we got snow, we got alot and lost all of our birds.

All in all, I was blessed with another fantastic season, and look forward to hittin the fields and water this fall.
