Southern Minnesota Duck Spots

Postby maxusmigration » Wed Dec 26, 2012 10:30 pm

Anybody got any spots that are out of the ordinary with a good number of ducks in southern MN? This year was kinda hard with it bein all dry and stuff but we managed this year as i finally got a group together and focused on swan lake near nicollet. Crammed as hell but good number. Just looking for a spot for my group of 3 guys. Any tips are much appreciated!

Plenty of good spots in S MN just need to put in some windshield time to find them. We have a spot not too far from you that we shoot on average 200+ ducks a year on. This year we only shot 73 off of it. This past season it was tougher with low water so we moved areas and concentrated where the birds were. There are great field spots between Le Suer and Mankato and great spots along the river. Head south of you and you can find larger concentrations of birds also. Ok that's all you get. Good luck pm me if you need other info

If you haven't hunted swan before a couple words of caution. First, I would do a mid morning hunt for the first time so you can get a feel for the lake. It's pretty easy to get turned around out there. Second, pay attention to the wind and water levels. If the wind picks up good it can move the water on the lake almost like a tide. If the water is high enough it's not an issue, but if you can barely get to where you're going and the wind picks up so can get hosed.

On the flip side there is often a good number of people out there so help may not be too far away.
