I'm guessing its not going to happen, according to what the DNR has on their website, they have 9/1-9/20 as the early goose dates. Still hoping to see something else but getting pretty close to the season to start changing dates now. Also shows the regular duck season to start on the 21st, but that is stated as tenative still.

All season dates are tentative until the flyway council meetings next month. MN is allowed to propose an august season under current framework, but it still needs to be approved by the flyway. Same with other waterfowl seasons and bag limits.

Hmmm, time to put in some miles. At least I can do it on the bike still. Heck, I could probably go hunting on the motorcycle if I got silos

Cant' wait to see the official rules when they are posted. The 3 day possession limit will be nice for the people who travel long distances.

What does West Central Mean? I would think the Canby, Ortonville, Wheaton areas would be open...

Most likely. I'll enjoy the 3 man possession regardless of how far we go, but you're right, it'll be espacially handy for a trip to ND if they get on the bandwagon. It gets to be a challenge eating birds if you're up there for more than 3 days.

Finally announced, the AUGUST GOOSE SEASON is happening. Aug 10th to the 25th.

go to the link above and click on the PDF (includes a map of the "intensive harvest zone")

August goose shooting hours will go to a half hour AFTER sunset. 10 canada geese/day, with no posession limit. Sunscreen and bugspray for sure!

The intensive harvest zone is way bigger than I anticipated, check it out! Also, I didn't see anything about a water restriction....

Gonna be interesting. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on this. Looks like I need to take a road trip soon and do some door knocking.

Looks like a lot more room than the original map they were showing which is nice, but still not quite to an area that I hunt. Still wish they would have put a water restriction in place. DNR FAIL AGAIN Don't know of too many early season hunts that kill large numbers of birds on water. Fields should be good though, new birds trying out their wings and they are going to be dumb.

Crap...didn't think it would happen. My usual crew is tied up with kiddos the first weekend. Gonna have to make some calls.

Yup, I'm not a fan, 8 of us really liked the labor day hunt. We will still hunt labor day but the geese sure will be smarter if not gone!!!

DNR FAIL

Keep in kind the resident goose population is more than 100 percent over the goal. Anything but an extended season won't cut it.

I've got some cattle ponds in mind that could be great for this.

But this hunt has the potential to totally screw the regular season!

This, on both counts. Lol.

I'll be making birds splash this August. Won't be many fields picked by then so you gotta do something.

The hunting pressure could push our resident duck population south and give the ducks & geese an early education on boomstick noises and decoys
