Some pairs up high, and I flared a triple but the morning view has been worth it so far.

Hope it picks up though!

Hillbilly, great photos! I hope this thread keeps going all season! I have a 12 week old daughter and I can't wait to get her in the blind after seeing your kids. Good job!

Are you posting real time from the field? Wish I had that kind of cell service.

I'm posting from back home now. Finally got all the birds cleaned and I'm warming up the oven to cook a pizza to eat while I watch the Vikings give another game away.

This morning was kinda tight tho.

Started out with birds working but skirting me. Very frustrating.
Image

But then things busted loose like Adrian Peterson and ended up 6 birds by 8 am. 3 bw teal, 2 wood ducks, 1 mallard. Ducks were among the dumbest I've ever seen. They must have been using the area because they weren't spooky at all and were landing wherever they wanted on the pond, not caring at all about the decoys.

Sweet pics guys!

I'm butthurt, as my truck had to go into the shop, and I can't seem to get many decoys/gun/bag/clothing on the bike...

Oh well. At least you guys are out and I can see your successes, which gives me something "hunting" to do.

Back at it next week...

Had another good weekend! Saturday was good but Sunday was really slow. The wife even got in on some action! Killed her first duck on Saturday in the rain. The dog retrieved a bunch and everybody had a blast!

Saturday morning I made it out with my dad to a slough and got our limit of ducks.
Sunday I went out solo to a lake and sat on a log and had a great shoot on woodies. Could have shot alot more. Wish the limit was 6.

My brother and I headed West with my oldest and his soon to be step daughter. Both days were great. Except Saturdays rain.

Still plenty of teal around but not near as many as least week.

Sunday results were similar. Not as many mallards but we don't mind woodies.

Can you have a great weekend with harvesting a single goose or duck?

I did....see below:

Got to our lake lot in Park Rapids we purchased in the middle of May.

Never thought of hunting up there.

I put the boat in the water at 6pm and drove around to our dock but only before I checked a cove I thought of hunting in the morning. Well it was actually a wild rice pad and I probably pushed out about 100 brids. (Thought I it was January in TX again)

You can see all the birds above the tree line.

Image

I had a plan. Calling for rain in the morning. Got up at 545. Walked down to dock.
Motor to spot.
Threw out 12 deeks.
Began to down pour rain at 630.
Here come the duck. I was shocked how many were there. Only shot once at a passing Woodrow.

All the birds were working into the other side of me 300 yards down the shore;

Packed up and went in at 745. Of course I had to check out where they were loafing. Once again a ton of ducks got up and flew away.

Had my plan set for Sunday Am.

Find a push pole in town or park where I could and walk shore around to the X.

Well no luck on the push pole and attempted to walk down shore line.
Ended up going into bog nipple high and had to use my SBE as a brace and paddle to get out.

Went back to Saturdays spot. Set up again; watched all the ducks trickle into the same spot. Called it quits. Time to fish but had to have breakfast 1st:

Image

Went back picked up wife to do a lil fishing at the bunk house we completed two weeks ago.

Image

Wife had 1 big northern on up next to the boat. Snapped the line right before netting it.

While we were trolling I heard a solo cluck over head. Looked over the lake and 20 geese were dropping in where I was set up. Should have hung around until 930.

There is always next weekend.

(I will be back)

Locked up gate and headed back to the cites:

Image

Here is the best part of the weekend.

We had the "big ultra sound" on Friday before we left to head north.

Had the Dr put sex of baby in an envelope and seal it. Had a reveal cake made with the inside frosting pink or blue in the middle. My wife and parents have been persistent that we are expecting a lil girl.

I caught the Dr slip up several times saying "he is not behaving for photos" and when she went to type the sex she only pushed 3 letters on the keyboard. I was 90% confident I knew it was a boy before cutting the cake.
I hid it well all weekend.

My wife has always been my goto hunting partner before we became pregnant. Well after a long weekend waiting. We cut the cake Sunday night after family dinner:

Image

I lost a hard core hunting partner for 9 months but now gained 2!

Image

Last hunting trip for her; January in TX. Rain, snow or blue bird days she would go.

Image

I can tell its killing her not getting out with me this year.

Patch of rice for next weekend:
Image

Sometimes its really not weather a bird is harvested; its just being out there taking it all in.
Birds this weekend would have been icing on the cake.

Congrats Woodrow! Great Story about the weekend also.

Wish I would trust myself enough to bring the camera or phone out in the blind but I know it will go swimming at some point so camp pics is all you're getting from me.

Had a decent weekend of shooting but did not see nearly the amount of ducks we normally see during the 2nd weekend. Saturday we stuck out the rain in AM and had our 3 man limit by 8:30, mainly teal with 5 pintails, 1 mallard and a woodie mixed in.

Image
Sunday was a slow morning but the birds we did see, decoyed great. Birds did exactly what we wanted them to do and we had 12 ducks and 2 geese commit and shot every one. Haven't been on too many hunts where we were all on like that through the morning. Best part was bringing them home and letting the little one play with them in the driveway. Going to make a duck hunter out of her yet.

Busy week at work. The beginning of the fourth quarter is a real B!TCH! All my crap is up in Parkers at the farm except my gun, ammo, and calls. Heading up Friday to meet the rest of the guys for the weekend.

She is due in mid February.
Perfect planning around hunting season; not that we were trying.
