I'm a little late posting these bit this was opening morning. Took my oldest on his first duck hunt. No gun yet but he enjoyed tagging along. Morning started good. Had 7 honkers and a flock of BWT in the spread a little after 6. Watches them swim around till LST and jumped em up and dropped a goose. By the time I could have fired a second shot everything was in the fog. Heard lots of ducks and some even landed but again the fog was too thick. Heard a line honk and let out a few moans and clucks. I would cluck or murmur when I heard the goose honk. Finished right in and I folded it about 10 yes from us. The first BWT came in with 3 others. Didn't see or hear them until they were at the edge of the decoys. Jumped them up and got the one on the second shot. Finally the fog cleared and I saw a flock of half dozen geese. Let out a few honks and they turned right towards us. Finished them with a few soft clucks and pulled up on the biggest bird in the flock and put it down with one shot. Kinda died down after that for an hour or so. Few ducks flew by but nothing seemed to interested in the decoys. I moved some around and right as I was sitting down we had 6 teal fly right over us. I gave a few soft quacks and 1 broke off and landed. Couldn't get the rest to turn and the one flew away while I was trying to work the flock. Got the 2nd BWT as it came streaking in out of nowhere. It wasn't a limit but it is a morning I will never forget. My son had a blast and can't wait to go back out tomorrow. ImageImageImage
Went out Sunday with some friends and I was the only one who shot. The wind was wrong for the setup and the spot all together. But I wasn't the one in charge so I didn't say much about it. I ended up with 1 woodie and 1 goose. Don't have any pics of them though.

The fog was terrible for us on opener too. It burned off quick though.

That band ain't even real...I saw him put one on there that he got from a Ducks Unlimited raffle...just kidding, man. Congrats on the jewelry! I guess I might need to shoot another few hundred birds before I get mine...

Well you will have the numbers on me if I continue to shoot as poorly as I do. You will get a band this year based on sheer quantity and I am just lucky not good. I still think it is sweet that it was a wood duck band

Got a band this morning. Three of us shot it so we left the jewelry with the land owner in the group. Yesterday shot 3 man limit in about 1 hour. Lots of birds around and the colors are getting much better on the drakes.

Long wet weekend with two buddies up north.
Sat morning and night was great

Sunday not so much.

Dinner was great too.
Fresh fries and fish.

Good when it all comes together even if we did get beat out of our spot at 5am.

It was very wet... and pretty slow for us this weekend. The ducks trickled in and out most of the morning in pairs and small flocks. Not many teal or woodies compared to 2 weeks ago. There were a few more mallards in the area, but most of them seemed to have other plans besides coming into our spread. The canada population had clearly been building over the past few weeks, but were content to hang out in the refuge, waiting on the weather I can only assume.

Saturday we were able to scratch out 4 over the period of 5 wet hours.

Sunday was worse yet. Very few opportunities, and what normally sounds like a WW2 battle field, was quiet... aside from the occasional crack of gunfire in the distance.

I shot for sh!t... but my buddy was able to take a nice mallard, just filling out it's winter wear, and a beautiful wood duck.

All and all, it was a fun hunt in the rain. Got my dog some retrieves under his belt, and put some meat in the freezer.

Teal and woodies on sat. Had to hunt am and pm to get my birds. Had my teal on a solo hunt just a little past 7 on Sunday. One of the most gorgeous mornings I've ever had on the water. My brother's pup did awesome and we only lost one that sailed on us on Sat. Pics from Sunday.

Saturday was a wash as my buddy who i planned to hunt with in the AM decided it would be a good morning to have their baby, oh well, put in some nice quality time with the kids. Sunday got together with an old friend and watched countless flocks of honkers fly over and had a couple commit and scratched 3. Also shot 1 mallard, 9 doves and a couple pigeons to keep the blood flowing in the wetness. All in all a good weekend and I am ready for some cooler weather to roll in.

goldfish and I got out today got out there around 3am because we were told people get there early second boat did show up till about 5 lol. but all I can say I hope I got all my missin out of the way for the season all of the shots were gimmys in my book. well sept for one flock I gota little antsy and shoulda waited to see if theyd circle. Goldfish got to shoot at his first flock of red heads. so we ended up dropin 3 out a flock. and sadly lost 2 of them.

then a better shot of the lanyard and bird tote the wife made me
