Weekend project left me watching birds fly over Saturday and Sunday but got a good jump on the addition before the snow flies. 2 more days next weekend and it should be wrapped up.

Its a little hard to tell from the pics, but I've killed a lot of honkers from the St. criox that have yellowing or rust colored staining on their feathers from the water.

A few cell phone pics of the crew from this weekend! Was pretty tough hunting but we still managed to scratch out a few. My older son also wanted to mount his first duck so he started on a BWT for his first practice session!! Got the bird all skinned out and fat scarped off and is waiting for his kit to come in the mail.

It looks like you and yours are livin' the dream!

Nice job on the hunt, and tell your boy to keep at it. I want to see the finished product.

Went To SD from the 9th to the 13th with Suicidal_Scaup and 2 other buddies. We got 62 ducks and 2 geese for time we were out there. Not limits everyday but great fun and good times. Here are a few pictures. Everyday I am shovelin'

10/12/13 hunt. Man, the teals were thick! We had a horrible wind blowing towards us but we knew that was where the 'X' was so we had to set up there. 5 mins before sunrise we had over 100 ducks feeding and working into the spread and sure enough with 1 min to go they all took off
Great day overall. 25 bwt and 1 widgeon for 5 guys and a pup :)
Hopefully we run into some greenheads this weekend :hi:

Yeah I figured so we planned ahead and ordered different eyes and figured we would need to shave the body down! This is more of a patience project.....he wanted to do it so I am going to see if he can stick it out. Thanks for the heads up though!!

The South Dakota hunt was awesome. Doubletheshovel said we got 62 ducks, but he did not mention that we could have limited out every day if we chose to shoot shovelers. We hunted two bodies of water that each had TONS of shovels. The one body of water EASILY held 2,000 of them. We were just glad to scratch out a few bufflehead and some teal in addition to the spoonies.

Good times had all weekend and we joked about Earl Dibbles, Jr. videos all weekend. If you haven't watched them on the net, it is worth a good search. Good stupid humor when you are with the boys.
Quoted from my wife while I am tapping on my iPad, "Are you talking about ducks again?"
Me, "Yep".

Beretta no fish to windy and it was blowing right into my parents place. I had a bite on Saturday night off the dock but missed it. Yes Suicidal is right we could have shot our limits everyday if we wanted to shoot spoonies to fill out our limits. We could have also had limits on Thursday and Saturday had we went hard at and set up in the afternoon on a few sloughs we found.

Good pictures guys!

Question though.....

Are GWT a rare bird up here?

Seen a few posts on here where folks seem excited to get one.?

Not knocking it. Just a question.

Woodrow is say they are somewhat rare. I think it's more we only get a few weeks with them around or that we would be excited to shoot one with good plumage. I think the plumage thing can be said for a lot of ducks. But heck I'm excited to shoot any duck even a hen woodie!

Yeah I asked a buddy at work; guess they are the first to leave.

Always could count on them down south.

The bulk of blue-wings leave early. Green-wings will hang later. I shoot em in November often. Their numbers just aren't near what blue-wing numbers are.
