Got 5 birds this morning. Probably could have easily had an limit was I not busted a couple times. I threw out all the decoys I have and I was all by myself. It was worth it tho. Two ring necks, one mallard, and kind of surprising to see any left this far north, 2 blue winged teal.

Nice bag and really nice pic man that's cool with the gun propped up on there too!!...I got shut down today watched easily 1k geese and 500 Mallards cross city limits to a off limit field one dirt road away!! That corn field has been killing me all week on the ducks now its starting to mess with my goose hunting too!! Not cool man! Need some coyote dekes or something for over their haha!! on a good note had some buddies get some blue bills today might be time to man up and get back on the water sounds like some divers are making it here.

We popped a couple ringers today and definitely saw more divers than last weekend. Got a couple puddlers too.

Thanks!

Yeah sometimes all you can do with fields like that is hope the farmer turns it over and the birds start looking to feed elsewhere. You should make some "hunter" decoys. Dress mannequins up like hunters and throw them out in the dark in places you don't want birds landing.

Had a 3 bird morning this morning, birds showed up ten minutes before legal light so had to pass on them. Hunted same field tonight and got a 5 man limit of mallards and a bonus pintail.

I made a cover for it out of raffia, but don't always use it. The coloring of it blends pretty well to everything that I just take some vegetation that's around me and put it over it. If inn hunting rice or dead cattails tho, this comes out

Pretty bold posting pics of yourself hunting in city limits like that.

Thats cool tho. I gotta look into something that if I ever get some money. I feel like i've been losing juice all season and putting that canoe on top of the minivan is getting harder and harder.

Well after Hillbilly's post I feel like a first timer with mine. Only had 3 flocks work today. 4 gadwalls, a pair of woodies, and about 15-20 geese. Dropped one gadwall, missed the woodies, and only 4 geese actually set and came in. They busted me and I had about a 30-35yd shot. I had Kent Faststeel 3" BB with a full choke. Hit one good but it sailed a little into some trees with corn behind it. Had my brother bring his dog out and looked for about an hour with no luck. I hate loosing birds that I know are hit.Image
Oh and this was my first gadwall too.

Actually, you can hunt within the city limits here in a couple places. That however is my yard, lol.

Just keep an eye on craigslist. I picked this up for about $400?

And hillbilly, nice job on scotch doubling, twice! Should have just told the guys you hate buying shells so have decided to just take two birds with one shot from here on out.

On our way back from Nodak after Round one; going to recharge and head back Thursday AM until Sunday.

First morning we had Mallards hitting our spot cupped and feet down on all but 2 of them.
Two ringers and a Gadwell got a part of the action as well.

Image

That night we hunted some big water after watching geese loaf for awhile.

Got two of the passing over:
Image

Sunday Am it was blowing snow and sleet; wind was out of the north.
Birds were far and few in between; not like Saturday Am. Ended up with a mix bag of red heads, mallards and there of these guys that should be in TX by now:
Image

3 Guys; Saturday and Sunday; we ended up with 33 ducks and 2 geese.

Went out today for a quick morning hunt and the birds were gone.

Felt like we were in MN again. It was really weird. Only saw one flock of birds.
Pulled out by 8am.
Hope birds get pushed down by Thursday night.

GWT for the most part are actually one of the hardier birds and are often the last the leave and follow the freeze line with mallards and various divers, etc. Now most BWT should be in Texas by now as they are the first that usually leave. I've always thought it's kinda weird that the two teal species are exact opposites when it comes to that.

After moving up from TX I found it kind of weird/goofy on how folks are with full plumage GWT.

If you think our reaction to full plumed GWT is goofy wait until someone posts pictures of a fully plumned pintail. 23 years of hunting and I've never seen one, lol, I missed one about 4 years ago, I still lose sleep over that one.
