Well it has been hit or miss lately, Made it out Thursday and Friday mornings, with MNJONBOATGUY. Thursday morning we hunted in the North metro thought the weather was perfect for hunting. We saw 3-4 groups all morning and they didn't want to finish in the decoys, Luckily one fat greenhead wanted in bad and we didn't get skunked. To make it worse my motor broke on out way back to the launch and we ended paddling 1.5 miles which was exhausting. Friday morning was clear calm and cold. thought we wouldn't shoot a thing. while I was taking pictures of the spread at shooting time we had two BWT land in the decoys and after Thursday we decided they needed to be taken care of Arkansas style. we shot a couple more teal, then had three shovelers cup right in and we dumped all three of those. The two drake wood ducks dumped right in and they both met their demise. within the first hour of shooting we had eight birds. After about an hour of not seeing anything we decided to cook some soup and have breakfast and wouldn't you guess it right as we start doing it a drake gadwall is locked up out front. we have just enough time to grab our guns right as he is sitting down in the spread. we finished our soup and a nice drake mallard works right but we miss him, as we are shaking our heads to how that happened another flock of mallards starts working in front. we let the lead kamikaze hen land in the decoys and take aim the flock, he shoots 2 and I get one to finish our limit. It was a wonderful morning and saw a lot more birds then expected. Had to work today and bringing in the boat tomorrow to get fixed. hopefully it will be fixed for next weekend. Big thanks to mnjonboatguy for getting me out yesterday.

Great shooting guys, not going to lie I'm getting a little jealous as I work on the old mans addition but oh well. I hope some one somewhere got into the geese today all morning large flocks sky high and catching the tailwind headed south. It was flock after flock, kinda fun to watch as we were working outside. 8 days till I leave for North Dakota, can't wait.

Nice shooting fellas. I love the subtle colors on a nicely plumed out grey duck.

I feel less worried about meeting you someday when I see a picture without the "shocker" displayed. It's a good change. Nice shoots by the way.

Great 2 day hunt with my brother. Lots of new birds in the area. Nice mixed bag
Ringneck, Pintail, Spoonie, Mallards, Redheads, GWT, Cans

Note to the group hunting: When you see a Canadian Goose flying in the middle of a flock of Trumpeters.... DON'T skybust it 100 yards up, just admire it's beauty and not "Is that a goose? Should we take it? Should we take it? Yeah take it..." (in my head i said they better not shoot it...) Then BANG, BANG, down went the trumpeter... :fingerpt: I've never seen decoys being picked up so fast in my life... The 2 groups hunting the small lake saw the same thing after chatting with them... The C.O. was called but didn't show up until after they left...

The other groups got off right after they shot too around 10:30am. They were the closest to the road where everyone launched. We were all rowing against the wind to get off the WPA. One guy that we talked to said that they are regulars there and are probably locals since they launched their row boat with an atv that they rode on to get there. Will try to get the plates next time when we are out there with them. Turned all the info we had including vehicle description to the Warden though. We were sitting across the lake watching them load their boats, its a pretty small lake so we saw everything all the vehicles.

Thanks guys! The pinny and redhead are going on the wall. Our hunting party agreed that whoever shoots the first fully plumaged mn stamp duck for the year, the others would have to tip in to mount it for him... Sadly my brother shot first and hit him but I did finish it off lol... I did get the redhead :)

I'll play.

No birds in the area. Just a few high fliers. Oddly we saw a flock of swans Saturday night...but very low on the diver numbers. Not even triple digits.

well hunting in ottertail county didn't go so well for us. Boy and I got an invite to hunt with the father in law I was like ok. I hate starin into the sun. but we had a northwest wind. since we have not comp on the lake we got up a little late and took us a little longer to set up. it was around 8 by the time we had 2 hen buffs land about 25 yrds out. I told Kenneth to shoot he shot and pattern went around them and they still got up so fatherinlaw and I finishd them then we seen alota good sized flocks but high or way out. and the sun was justa shinnin in our eyes. and caught a flock to my left that swung down wind and came in beautiful 2 actually sat and they startd to take off. Kenneth actually shot at them in the air but I didn't really see his posture on shootin because I was shooting I hear the father shoot off his end and watch a duck fall I drop one and then went for a second.. short stroked the gun AGAIN ( this will be my 4th season shooting this gun and ive never short stroked before let along this high amount). put one in the chamber duck just about hit the sun I shoot be hind it and just about took out the blue bill line went for a fallow up on it and I coulnd see nothing but a huge spot so it was a blind shot then the father inlaw shot it. (He has many trophies from shooting trap for the last 40 years. and he has coule for 125 outa 125 and a couple for 120 outa 125.) so shooting with him is fun if we get ducks. well we went to pick them up and one was a diver get with in 10 feet shed go down. so I raise up with my 6shot and pattern master and let rip and 10' her head actually went flyin another 15'...but after that I was kinda kickin my self for not letting the boy finish it off it didn't even cross my mind in the heat of the moment. out of that flock we got 2 hen bluebills and the father shot a gourgus drake gadwall if I didtn have ducks in the frezzer I woulda put him in there to go on the wall. but ive never seen a gadwall fly with a flock of bluebills. well that was it for sat.

sunday we didn't get anything we got buzzed a lot and seen ALOT of swans.
