Not usually one to post pics, but had a great weekend with friends and shot some ducks also.

Saturday was a little tough with no wind and tons of shooting going on in all directions for the 1st 20 min had birds flying everywhere. Ended the day with 24 ducks and 3 geese in the bag and sailed a 4th that we did not recover.

Sunday was great and managed to scratch a limit by 9:30. 36 ducks in the bag and a couple of bonus geese. Geese worked great to a call and mallards did also. They wanted a call the whole way in till their feet hit the water, as soon as you let off they were skirting to the outside.

Shot a ton of teal with a few mallards mixed in, also shot ringnecks, pintails and a couple shovelers to keep the dog happy and full. Great part is we refrained from shooting into large groups and I know there will be a ton of birds around next weekend.

We were in South Central MN having a nice brown duck beatdown!

I almost forgot about Sunday.

We were able to scratch out 9 more ducks including 2 Blue wings, 1 mallard and 6 woodies...

Although we were seeing geese all day, none of them wanted into our spread...

So, 5 geese and 15 ducks for opening weekend... I'll take it.

well got out this morning and I was up from 5am fri till current time I cant sleep the night before the first hunt of the year. but was hearing good reports so went to a local lake and it was very slow. had 3 woodys come in dumpd the first one went to second one dumpd him and then the first one got up and flew away????? I was using my sxs .410 buddy went to get the third one well took him 3 shots and then we had to chase it. well that's when all the ducks wantd to work our spread. well heard a lone honk couple hundred yards out seen it. It was down wind and talkin softly so I just gave a couple clucks and murmers to and he dropd from about 100yrds outa the sky right into the deks and rolld him at less the 15yrd thought about usin the 410 but naw usd the 12g. then we desided to pick up I went to get boat buddy went to get deks half way to boat I heard a honk startd lookin around and seen him up wind way up there and way out. so I went runnin to blind gave him some hails and he startd our way about 300yrds out and about 200 down wind of us I just kept givin clucks and murmers and he was about to land way out in the middle I got on the call with some fast clucks and he pickd up and came right into the decoys and buddy busted his wing at 10yrds and I finished him of.

I plan on goin back out tomarrow with the kids.

Great pics guys that's for sharing!

Saturday was hot and heavy for first 30 mins then really died off for us.

Sunday even worse 10 mins of shooting then nothing.

But another opener here and gone, and I'm anxious for cooler weather

Saturday.

Went out for the opening weekend overall it was a good time sat kind sucked for us a little bit ended up with 9 and a honker for our group of 5... 5 groups showed up to a pond that could probably be efficiently hunted by 2 groups tops and to top it off 2 of the groups was about 30 mins before shooting time but that wasn't even the worst part we had some of the worst fog I have every seen could not even see the last decoys probably 35 yards out and it was so still it just would not leave had to be there till 9:30 10 heard wings all morning but couldn't see them managed a few after it cleared and had a few drop in the dekes just outside vision range haha that swam in and we were able to jump em up

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1380025454.750101.jpg

Sunday the forecast called for a real good wind so we went to a pretty small slough kinda in a basin I had scouted out that was holding some teal we went there and it was a lot better we were alone due to the size of the slough and the effort involved to get the Jon boats down there the 5 of us got our 30 and were at the trucks around 9:30 ish

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1380025746.749490.jpg

Three of us had no work Monday so we figured we may as well give it another run so we headed down to the same pond and got our 18 we finished around 10:30 or so last few birds took a bit because there wasn't much for hunters out to move the birds around and the wind was blowing!!!! Over the 3 days we shot a goose a wood duck mallards BW and GW teal and 3 gadwalls..awesome opener with great company..wouldn't trade the leg, back, shoulder pain and lack of sleep for anything! Craziest duck was a close to full colored GW teal have only seen 2 of them shot in MN my self but never this early wasn't too photo worthy though because he only had half his head left

Nice work guys. I've heard of several people bagging pintails this opening weekend, including one in our group. It would be really nice if we got some late migrating pinnies with some color too.

Only picture I have worthy to show. This was what I took home Saturday
uploadfromtaptalk1380085898039.jpg

It's belly was full of another fish, to the point that it's tail was still in the back of it's mouth. Didn't stop it from nailing the ol standby (red and white daredevil)
The rest was filled with missed shots and sky high birds. I don't have a boat to get to where they wanted to be (a rice lake and all I've got is an outboard).

Don't snows have black wing tips? It's hard to see if they do in the photos, sorry if they do.
