Don't snows have black wing tips? It's hard to see if they do in the photos, sorry if they do.

Image

I also thought snows didn't have black bills? Awful short necks to be anything else though

Guys....photo shows that wing tips are black. These just aren't yet the feathered out late season birds. Great job getting the kids out. They do love it. take care.....mauser

Excellent!! Are those snows being prepped for mounting? Where did you get them? General location obviously, not asking where your spot is. I've seen snows in OTC opening weekend before, also seen specs and cacklers in the September season but its super rare.

OTC=otter tail county. Its in the western lakes region of the state. Our claim to fame (as far as hunting goes) is Fergus falls. Great goose hunting. I've thought about trying to mount birds by myself before, do you have any "how too" books you could recommend?

Pics are much clearer.

Having never really seen snows or swans very closely, and being that I may or may not know guys who have confused them in the past, I typically don't pay attention to things that are all white.

Driving through the countryside up here I saw a lone snow goose about 75 yards off the road in a cut wheat field. I thought for sure it was a lost farm goose because it just sat there when I stopped. But the second I opened the door to get out the vehicle for a closer look, sure enough he took off and it was a snow goose. Kinda weird, I saw one snow goose and that was more ducks than I saw all day.

Didn't go out this morning. It was too wet. I'm a weenie, whatever. But I did decide to go scouting. I found a really cool lake that was a bit of a hike back. I didn't think it was so deep, so when I saw a group of ring-necks just sitting there I got a little greedy and shot 3 of them. Weeeelll... turned out the lake was a lot deeper than anticipated. So I had to go aaaalll the way back to the van, take the canoe off, drag the canoe out there, get the ducks, then drag it all the way back and put it back on. If I knew I was gonna get wet and need to drag a canoe out I might as well have just gone out in the morning!

It was a minor nightmare at worst, but I got the birds and all is well that ends well.

I borrowd this dog from a friend that I went to school with she doesn't get to hunt much so she let me take him but wow it is nice to hunt wit a desint dog. but he sat right outside of the blind. she sent him off to training. hes a littly rusty but nothing a good week of work wouldn't cure.

Image

he dropd the duck about 15 yrds away and came to me took acouple min to get him to go back and get it every time I say fetch it up hed look at the water like we'd shot another one he finally did.
