I'm curious how far north the teal were. We hunted by Detroit Lakes and saw very few. Shot 5 over two days for the three of us, but after reading all of the posts on how well people did on teal, wonder if I just wasn't in the right spot or if the teal have started moving a bit south. I am not looking for exact spots, but a general town where you may have found them.

I am used to flocks of 10-50 birds in them on opener and getting buzzed like crazy. Maybe I am just jealous of you all seeing tons of birds and I saw very few in comparison to past openers. Anyone else see low numbers of teal compared to last year?
Quoted from my wife while I am tapping on my iPad, "Are you talking about ducks again?"
Me, "Yep".

I hunted West central MN. Saturday we saw mainly BWT but no flocks. They were all singles and pairs. Also saw two gwt. Sunday BWT numbers were half of Saturdays. We did see a flock of 30 plus GWT on Sunday. What was real surprising was the lack of other puddlers (pintail, gadwall, widgeon & spoonies).
Just say no to internet scouting.

We saw lots of BW teal, and I've heard about green wingers being shot all over the state from different buddies. We bagged one redhead on saturday, otherwise the standard early season MN mix for opener (few mallards, mostly teal, some woodies, random redhead).

Then I remember there's a supervolcano under Yellowstone that is 40,000 years overdue, and when it erupts, it could potentially cover most of North America... and I'm like,

We got a few redheads, two that weren't feathered out enough to fly. Firefighter was merciless. Hardly any meat on them since the muscles hadn't developed yet...lesson learned.

We had good numbers of teal Saturday and Sunday in South Central area, but the largest flock we seen had 20-30 birds in it. I couldn't believe the amount of fat on most of them, never seen them so fat this early in the season. Talked to the guy down by our area last night and said the big bunches are around right now. Hope some of them stick around for the weekend, this is usually our numbers weekend for the teal.
