Wind Storm Friday

Postby BurnettGunner » Thu Oct 10, 2013 6:52 am

So hunting in gusts to 30 mph in mid-Minnesota tomorrow morning. Anyone have any experience in high winds? Ducks will still hit the rice early or should I hunt the back bays in the bulrushes to get out of the wind?

I am thinking the ducks/geese might be flying nice and low into the rice still but its been a while since I've hunted a lake in the wind like that.

Seeing some movement out this way couple 20-25 flocks of mallards all in full plum. Friday could be excellent before the storm.

What does the wind do to birds? I shied away from hunting a lake today that I thought would be otherwise decent because of the wind whipping across it

Sometimes i feel like it's so windy birds just kinda go where they are going and don't wanna go into or with the wind or with the wind if it's gonna mean more work just to check out decoys. Sometimes it seems like a good breeze keeps them a bit more restless tho as well.

Didn't hunt the lake I wanted to on Saturday due to the wind. The one boat that I knew got out was a 20' Alaskan and they were still breaking waves over the bow. Needless to say they shot a 3 man limit by 8 a.m.

Time for a bigger boat!
