Lets See Your Best Mount

Postby Woodrow03 » Sat Oct 12, 2013 3:50 pm

This one is mine:

Thanksgiving morning 2011
Public Flooded timber in TX behind my house.

Told the wife I was going to get dinner. Came back in 15 mins with a limit of Woodrows

Cool post

November 11, 2010

Saturday morning, NW winds 20-25 mph.. Snowing...

Wake up, got going, got to my favorite spot, set up and things are looking good, shooting hours start and ducks flying everywhere but by me...

Phone rings, it's my boss and he asks if I can come to work because there's outages in the county.. (Im a lineman for a REA) I'm not on call so I was pissed.. Told him I was 30 mins from town, he said ok I'll call someone else..

Soon the birds were coming right in.. My head wasn't in it after that call. Probably missed 12 shots before I connected..
Then a group of bills swung the dekes and I scratched one out of the group.. My dog brought it back.. In the snow and it was completely awesome!!!

Then my boss calls again and says "Mort I need you to come in" ( I still give him a hard time) all this happened before 830 ish. I left and went to work like a fool! I still regret it, should have never answered cuz I haven't hunted any weather like that since.

Lesson learned... Leave phone in pickup, or don't answer!!!!

Hard to pic a best one so here are a couple:

1. Oldsquaw from the Chesapeake Bay after taking my dad to DC. Hunted the day after we toured Arlington. Truly an awesome and humbling experience.

2. Hoodies from the last hunt with the pup I had growing up. Tripled up on some mallards that day and she puked up water after the first two retrieves so she road with me in the canoe for the third. The drake hoody was her last ever retrieve.

3. 4 of the 5 teal species from Argentina. A great trip with a fellow DHCer. Haven't found the right place in the house for these yet.

This is my only mount. Had a couple really nice birds in my day I would have loved to get mounted but man its expensive. I like having this up, I also have a big framed photograph of a wolf on my wall as well. Ain't no Bob Marely pothead posters round these parts, no sir.

I know this is a duck hunting site but hogs like these don't grow on trees. I caught both on Junesomethingteenth 2003 in MN.

I would say two ringers on top....

I've heard lots of folks call ringers bluebills. It's not like bluebill is the actual name so I can see how folks can exchange the terms.
