DNR offers free interactive laser shooting range at Minnesota State Fair (2005-08-23)
As part of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) year-long celebration, the Division of Enforcement will sponsor an interactive shooting range for youth and adults at the Minnesota State Fair, Aug. 25 through Sept. 5.

The DNR Division of Enforcement is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Firearm Safety Hunter Education and more than 1 million students certified.

At the State Fair, children 54 inches or taller will be given the chance to learn basic rules for safe firearms handling, information on DNR safety training programs and have an opportunity to test their skills using one of the four Laser Shot shooting simulations systems.

Participants, using replica firearms that emit a laser on a screen, will be challenged by four scenarios. The first is a target range, which will test shooting accuracy. The second scenario is field targets, which consists of stationary targets at varying distances. The third scenario will test skills with moving targets at a trap range. The last scenario will give participants a chance to simulate a hunt of their choice, such as quail, pheasants or deer.

This will be an event for participants and spectators. The Laser Shot display will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day of the fair. It will be located in the theater room at the DNR building.
