Spring migration

Postby StuStiltman » Mon Mar 13, 2017 5:13 pm

What are you seeing moving north? So far I've seen Canada's and swans. Found 1 field by deadmans lake in OTC with probably 300 swans on it 2 weeks ago, the field had swans on one side, Canada's on the other, I'm guessing 1000 or so Canada's. Haven't seen ducks yet.

Saw a few mallards south of the cities last week, Canada's all over.
Sometimes I think...
'Do I really want a beer?'
Then I remember there's a supervolcano under Yellowstone that is 40,000 years overdue, and when it erupts, it could potentially cover most of North America... and I'm like,
F YEAH I WANT A BEER!

The fields around my house are loaded with Canadas and mallards.... driving home about 5pm each day they leave the river and lakes to feed and it look like a site from the Dakotas. saw about 15 Sandhills yesterday for the first time this year on the crow river and buffalo lake has a pod of about 2000 goldeneyes sitting on it

We spotted swans near Bemidji over President's weekend while snowmobiling. Crazy early. Apparently they found some open water on the Mississippi River.

Not a whole lot different in the cities than in the winter, just the canadas seemed to be paired up more instead of grouped up.

Swans and Canada's. no real numbers. But with the creeks running more than not it is about time to go look around soon.

I've seen swans, Canada's, buffies, mallards, some bills, goldeneyes, and heard some Snows overhead...in the last couple weeks. Seen a few juncos in the back yard too.

LOTS of new birds today. Mallards, geese, merganser, and a pair of woodies

Saw a handful of snow geese just outside Tyler, MN on a WMA yesterday. I was very tempted to put a sneak on had they not been in a group of Canada's about 3 times the amount of snows.

Funny you mention that.... yesterday my wife said "I saw some snow geese going to buffalo the other day" I said "huh, you sure?" She said "yea, about 20 of them flying from south to north toward buffalo" and described them.... hot dog she saw snow geese.... then she said "I didn't tell you cause I figured you'd go on some mission to find them for hours"

..…yup she's right

Haha well seeing some around Buffalo is a lot more rare than seeing some around Tyler so that's a little cooler of a mission trying to kill them around buffalo lol
