Whenever we have done good there we've never really had much sucess with calling. One of those 6 in 1 whistles is what I primarily use and it's subtle enought to usually keep the birds from flaring

Dat's right, a good wood duck whistle is all the call you need.

I'm glad they changed the rules for this upcoming year about not being able to access the wma before 5:30.

What you're trying to say beakbuster21 is that if the guys on here tell you that there are alot of ducks at Askew and that it isn't too crowded, then you and you're dad are going to hunt it but if you get negative reviews then you will hunt somewhere else. Is that about accurate?

No I don't wanna get out there and get set up and some people come set up next to us and shoot at ducks that should be my father and mine. I just wanna know if there are any mallards because where I duck hunt in Columbus, MS all there is is gadwalls and widgeon. I'm tired of shootin FREAKIN gadwall that taste like crap.

Your right gadwalls taste like crap. Askew that land of the mallards and no hunters. As many mallards as stars in the sky son. Tell diddy to load up and bring your woodduck whistle.

If gadwalls and widgeons don't taste good then obviously don't know what thell you're doin.......ill take a mixed bag of ducks including divers and shovelers, cook them, and bet you can't tell the difference

Thread resurrection: Found some birds at the "skew" on a prior date, got there around 3 am on a friday morning.......brushed our blinds and made some fine adjustments to our decoy spread......at 5:30 a group comes in and sets up 75 yards across the field from us and skybusted at every group of ducks that gave us a look. I will also mention they shot at a few groups of snows that were flying from farmland across the river like they where shooting some kind of super guns.....they also shot a diver on the water and peppered my decoys spread and almost peppered me.....IDIOTS.....after that I remembered why I don't hunt there often....but look at the bright side I found out which truck they drive :)

I hear they were hoppin' and poppin' with the ticket books at Tally NWR, too. Looked like a GW convention at the Hwy 32 boat ramp the other day. :welcome:

I have been to askew once this season. Killed three, 2 woodies and a widgeon. It's no fun when the woods aren't flooded. I'll come back next year.

Killed my 3 banded wood ducks by 6:45 am Saturday morning..............got there at 5:45 and went and set up 50 yards from a group of guys. Hell I didn't even have to call I just combed down my beard, put my duck dynasty beanie on, slapped on some face paint and shot at their swing ducks all morning. Duck Commander would be proud!!!
