Just stop and ask them, I'm sure they would lead you in the right direction

All Corps land east of Highway 51 is now a waterfowl sanctuary. It is closed to duck hunting. Sorry.

The only land closed to duck hunting by the Corps of Engineers at Arkabutla is the Mud Hole after 2:00 PM. This is the area west of Interstate 55, east of Highway 51 and north of the Coldwater exit from I-55. Do a Google search for "Arkabutla Lake public use map" and you can find the boundaries of the public land and all hunting restrictions. Next go to the DU migration map (or Google Earth) at www.ducks.org to find areas that look good. There are a lot of ducks to be had on the public land once you find them. That's the fun of scouting. Also note that ATV's have been banned except for access/egress on maintained trails.

Daviddees needs to get the facts right, non of the area anywhere around there is closed to any hunting. The mud hole does close at 2:00 and askew closes at 12:00 on the days its open, but other than that, those are the only restrictions. I have hunted there for the last 20 to 25 yrs and it is just like any other place its hit or miss, but when its a hit, it can be as good as anywhere around.

I Was up hunting around Crowder a few weeks ago. On jan 9 the cold water had more ducks on it than it could hold it was overflowing with ducks. I was told by a local that it only holds ducks like that once every seven years or so and that the ducks would be gone in a few days. Sure enough by monday most had moved off the river.
