Well me and a few buddies are coming from out of state. We were going to do a guided hunt but figured we could do better on our own. Maybe not though.

There's a reason it's called huntin' and fishin' instead of killin' and catchin'

A group of 5 of my friends did the same thing last year. Drove 18 hrs round trip. Spend 5 days scouting and hunting hard all day. Didnt kill but 3 ducks, not a single greenhead. It is going to be easy, but i would save your time and money and get a guide.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I could have sworn this forum was designed for fellow hunters to help each other out. I guess that is not the case here in MS. I dont recall anyone on here asking for GPS locations to your favorite spots. Thats the problem these days. No one wants to help anyone out with the intent of keeping the sport alive. How would you feel if you were a new duck hunter with the desire to get started off in the right direction and all you get is a bunch of people telling you to stop asking questions about hunting and go do it yourself. Suggesting a few bodies of water for them to start looking on would not hurt your little honey hole that much. For you guys trying to find out some info and looking for a good answer, if I can help in anyway feel free to ask away.

the best way to help a new hunter out is to be honest with them.

Killing ducks on public land can be very tough even for locals that know the areas well and hunt on good days. So it is not an unrealistic expectation to drive out to MS from out of state on a 3 day permit and not kill a duck, even if there are a lot of ducks around.

Plus these same hunters who become frustrated after long travel, lots of effort, and little success seem to portray less respect for an area that they are only visiting.

someone new to the sport needs to be taken with people that are good at it who can increase their chance for success to establish a proper introduction.

I'm sorry if I came off rude.

If you guys need help, we can meet up one morning and I'll show you all my spots so that you don't have to do any work on your own. I know that asking on the internet is a lot easier than physically going out scouting. I wouldn't want any of the new duck hunters to get discouraged and upset.

Well to each his own! However, I do enjoy your sarcasm! Being honest about the chances of them killing ducks is not the wrong thing to do. Being a smart@#% is down right the wrong thing to do. Like I said. To each his own and everyone has to sleep in the bed they make. Good Luck this season Trip!

Lol you guys are funny....the kid isnt asking to suckle your tit or hunt from your blind he is justt ask for public land locations....which is probably public knowledge anyway through your local DNR... but either way public land is usually massive he doesnt have time to scout the spots you would prolly never know he was there. I feel the same way about internet scouting but im with Bojangles show a little respect to the guy...treating ppl like that makes us all look bad
