Is a Brant in the duck or goose family? I haven't ever seen one and very seldom hear people talk about them.

Believe it or not, Brant have been killed in both the Central and Mississippi River flyways on more thasn one occasion. Perhaps even more often than reported because of not being identified correctly, it's believed that they may be blown well off course on their annual migration route from Western AK down the Pacific Flyway in extreme storms.
