I hunt with guys who have leather ones like the one on cabelas now for 5 or 6 yrs and theirs look fine and its not like we baby our equipment. I mean its as simple as keeping an eye on your things and make sure they are in working order. If the lanyard looks like its starting to rot after a few years retire it and get a new one. Hell for $3 you can buy a dozen of them and keep replacing them when need be. Lets see 12 lanyards that say last 5 yrs a piece would last you 60 yrs. All at the price of $36. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying they are the best lanyards but they are definately sturdy enough to wear afield for a few years and at that price you can't beat it. I think they were going for like $13 or $15 originally and they are just on clearence now. Thats around the price of the primos one you have now. So its not like your buying an actual $3 lanyard, you're just buying the old model. Its like the elastic shoulder straps I bought for my binoculars for $4. They were originally $20 but they had a new model come out that was right next to them on the shelf. The product in the package was the same but the only difference was the red on the packaging was a little darker and I think the brand's emblem was a little different other than that it was the same exact product just repackaged for $16 less.
And I'm with you, I don't exactly know why but I just like the looks of the leather ones better.
