Seriously though, I usually fill my ammo belt which holds 24. That usually consists fo 18 3½inch 3 shot and 6 3½inch BBB (We have not been seeing that many geese). I have yet to shoot my belt empty.

I'm in that neighborhood.

Depends on how long I'm going to be out. Most of the time a box and a half. If I'm jump shooting at the end of the season I'll put three in the gun and stuff another 9 in my chest pocket.

Now that I live in Arizona and have finally started duck hunting I have only carried to boxes of heavi-shot with me. Not that many ducks yet down here. I've shot twice, killed twice. 18 left and counting.
Have you ever woke up one day and said. Damn when does the season start.

I always take waaay to many, but I hate the thought of for some freakish reason I wouldn't have enough. We usually hunt where we only have a chance at woodies and maybe a freak goose or two, but I feel like I will run out of shells if I take less than 15 to a box. It's crazy, but I know that it would be alot better to have too many shells than be just a couple short.
If the hunting is cold, luckily so is the beer!

I usually take a half box each of size 2's, 4's and BB's. I keep most of them in my busket (yeah, I said busket). I'm usually carrying less than ten in my pockets when I'm actually hunting, because I've got the rest in ziplock bags within arms reach.

2 boxes. I don't want the lack of shells to be an excuse for not having a limit

On the state refuges here in Calif your only allowed 1 box. You have to return to your vehicle for another box. Some refuges only allow 25 shells per/day.

when I hunt puddlers I take one 1/2 boxes and leave them in my coat for a hunt or two. but when I hunt divers I bring as many as I can find ,we can get 17 sea and puddlers(GE count as puddlers in AK) and you will need to swat about 40-60% of your birds that you hit.
thanks to the men and woman of the United States Coast Guard- without them I would not be here.

you should see how many I carry quial hunting in the desert. I just feel like I won't have enough. I'll carry almost a box and have another box and a half in the truck. The limits 15 but some days that could take 2 boxes. Those little buggers suck I've shot more cactus than quail.

How many shells

Postby MicroMike » Thu Nov 17, 2005 3:31 pm

I usually take 25 of whatever size I feel I need to hunt with, and then bring 6 more 4s for shooting cripples.

Like was mentioned above, our limit is 6.

I also alway pack som BB for geese (just in case).
