Will also note that most of the ducks I saw while out and about this morning were pintails, which I took to be a good sign.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

The bees in Ricks thing were honeybees. The bigger ones were males. They are the fat, lazy, pos's of the honeybee world.
The species of honeybee? Not sure but Im guessing they are "Starlight" bees.
They are called that because they work at night.
They are not spanish honeybees. I kept that variety.

I made an early walk at the blind with the pup and camera this morning. It was in the 40's, sooooo nice. I heard and saw specs as soon as I got to the property. Not many ducks around yet but the specks are piling up. I'm ready to hunt!!! I just hope we get a push of ducks in the next two weeks. Snows and blues are also in the mix.

nice! Are those specks in the field you wanted to plow?

Just a stones throw to the south of those fields. Had a good bit of goose movement this morning even as I was leaving. I hope the ducks soon follow. I drove west and did see a few flocks of big ducks in that time to Ricks place. Some folks are just pumping water now.

Rick, my weapon of choice for close quarters animal removal like bees or anything not wanted in Wood Duck boxes is a CO2 fire extinguisher. Find a hole give it a quick blast and game over.

I used to like the wiffle ball bat approach too! Until I decidec to tangle with a hornets nest. Bad move, got hit above the eye twice, cowered to the house with my tail between my legs. Sting kill, Ibuprofen, regrouped. 12 gauge with the turkey choke completely eliminated that problem.

That's about right on the birds. Middle of last week I saw several groups of high flyers heading south.

A friend of mine in CT uses a hand gun with varmint shot for bees & wasps. Says it is great fun!

Found two decoys today. Was in my boat and could see two parties that could have lost them judging by the wind. Wanted to make sure the right guys got them so I pulled up and asked how their dekes are rigged. The guy said "J's" and I knew they were his.
Then when he got the two decoys he said, "you're aunt betty aren't you?".
Yep...so I stopped and chatted a while. Duck hunting is...freaking awesome!

No. I aint into the whole hunt all day thing. Got beat by the wind all night. Blind was flapping and my covers blew off a couple times.
I packed up after ten am.
Nothing was flying. Talked to other hunters gathering intel.
Turns out shelbyville walkins are without vegitation period.
I wonder about Rend Lake and Carlysle...hmmm.
Gotta recharge and attack again. The ducks I did see were skittish locals mostly. No big push yet as is normal here.

recipe called for skin on quail, but these were skinless so I just added a little olive oil to the baste.

Up here the only way to get quail is to raise them.
Or buy from a game farm.
Looks good swamp. Makes me want some.
My dad was a quail freak. We always smothered them in gravy in a crockpot.
Started it before duck hunts so we could have quail lunch.
