Got a quote back form the dealership, and when he started talking I knew he was gonna rattle pages of issues off at me. He said the fan pulley was shot and I figured that already. He continued to tell me that my water pump had seized up as well even though they operate on two different belts. The truck was shut off immediately when it happened, so Im gonna say BS on that one. He also told me that my battery was no good and needed to be replaced. The truck hadnt started in four days and the alternator was not operating because the belt wasn't spinning, so it obviously drained the battery. He also said Im due for transmission service, differential service (even though it had been serviced less than 3 months ago), new gaskets on my valve covers, and boot replacement on my passenger cv axle (already knew this). To fix the fan pulley they want $1250 and $980 for the water pump. It aint happening. I called a Toyota mechanic and he said as I suspected that the dealership was feeding me BS. He quoted me $580 for pulley replacement and said the water pump is probably ok. I posted the truck on Craigslist just to see what offers I can get from it. In the meantime Im gonna pull the truck back home and figure it out.

might want to check the fan clutch as well while you are replacing the pulley.

You've got a lot to learn, son. Do what I do whenever I'm ready for a new vehicle -- sink existing vehicle it in the nearest lake (or ocean in your case), call the authorities and report it as stolen ..... and boom check from the insurance company arrives by the end of the week.
