Honestly, it sounds REALLY good. Much much better than I expected. I was planning on just putting it on the shelf as a showpiece if it sounded like crap, but it's getting put in the vest (once I find one lol)

I got it wood off ebay. There are stores online that sell kits and stuff too if you don't have the tools to do it. I wanted to hard carve as much as I could just because I'm into stuff like that.

The leopardwood on the sides is from when I built my longbow. Every project I've done since then I've tried to incorporate some wood from that same block. Have a longbow, knife I made, this turkey call.

Here is the first knife I made. I made my groomsman these and sheaths for their gifts. Pretty BA if you ask me! This wood is amboyna burl. I made 12 of these knives. All different species of wood. All started out as O2 tool steel flat stock. Tangs were all hand filed.

It's all file work. If you look at each individual cut, you can see the different type of file. I think on that one I used a round rat tail, a triangle, and a regular flat file. You vary the angles and make back cuts in previously files spots to make the design. That one is called a variation of the vine pattern. Not too hard, just time consuming. I had over 500hrs in making all of those knives.

I just looked...in the first picture look at the bottom left. That knife didn't get as much file work done. That's what the more intricate filing looks like before you do the extra operations. It's like 4 more steps past the alternating semi-circles to get to "the vine"

Very cool! A lot of that stuff is becoming a lost art form.

Nothing better than making something with your own hands. Everything you do with it becomes that much more memorable.

Like my little brothers knife that I made him, I had a cherry log saved and I planed it etc. It was the first tree he ever cut down with a chainsaw. Here are some pics of the longbow I built since we are on the topic.

Few designs I drew...deciding on which one I liked the best.

Oh so you think you're better than me?!

Only playing. Nice work brah. I've been doing some research on forging a knife. Plan on giving it a whirl when I get some room to get setup.

If you get a proper setup, you can turn some out in relative short time. The finish work is where the hrs come into play. If you need any help, lemme know. I did a ton of research before doing these. A lot of machining companies are catching onto the market as well as far as doing small batch heat treats. Much simpler than doing it yourself, with much better results
