I carry one of these. Hawaiian sling. Good for running the occasional shark off and gives you a little more range than an arrow.

Friend of mine carries one. I'm just to cheap to buy one.

My buddy just dropped these off for the fishing excursion Titz and I are trying to accomplish. He also brought all the bubba blades that they sell to see which ones I wanted. Anyone have these? Do you like them? I really like the 9 inch taper flex and the 7 inch flex. Image

I love my 9" taper flex bubba blade. I also have a couple 10" stiffy blades that I got on clearance, they are not near as useful. Hard to beat a plain old Dexter, though...

My buddy does a lot of fishing so he got a dealer license and uses it for buying lures and such. He is now a bubba blade dealer but has to order 10 at a time. He can get me the 9 inch flex for 32 bucks. For that price in thinking about getting a few different sizes. But have to wait until he gets a order big enough. They sent him one of each for "display" so he has been going around asking all his fishing buddies if they want any.

Basis is you need to have a pickup point and dropoff point. Depending on where you go, usually there is a good bit of public launch points, or in worst case, look for road bridges. You'll have a bit more carrying to get your stuff launched, but everything is so light it's not a huge deal.

When we do a weekend trip, like this weekend, you gotta have all your gear and have it fit in your vessel. So think about cooking, food, and sleeping. Most of my buddies sleep in hammocks, which are super easy to packup / setup and pack small / light. If I bring my dog, I take a tent. If drinking, remember pack in / pack out. So a bottle of liquor or bag of wine is usually easier than a bunch of cans of beer. Although beer works well for keeping a cooler cold. For food, if we have the room we'll take a camp grill. If not, we just plan meals around pie irons and camp forks. It's not hard to eat really well. Things like granola, trail mix, peanut butter / fruit are great.

Planning depends a lot of the body of water. If it's floating vs paddling. Speed of the current, and the distance you travel. If you carry a gps, you can easily figure out whether you need to speed up or slow down if you want to make it to a halfway point the first night to camp. We camp either on islands in the middle of the river, or on flat spots along the way. Most of the places we go this is legal, if not you have to figure that out.
