Inda, I didn't read back so this may have been brought up but your teal example could also expand into the early goose season. For instance, here in Wisconsin our early goose season is Sept 1-15 (as would be expected) and has a daily limit of 5 birds with a possession limit of 10. Now our regular goose season starts on Sept 16 with a daily limit of 2 possession of 4. So in theory somebody could should a legal limit in an afternoon hunt on the Sept 15 and if they do not consume 3 of them by midnight they are suddenly in violation of daily and possession limits... it's dumb the way it is written but I don't think it's anything to ever worry about unless you plan on breaking other game laws and giving them reason to search your home to find other violations to tack on later.

I can't believe Inda is still stewing over this. Give it up, you're a violator like the rest of us (except HNTFSH). Just join the dark side Luke Swampwalker and be done with it.

Jehler, they call them mud hens for a reason.

There's a difference.
If I get caught walking out with 27 ducks stuffed down my waders is one thing.
Having 27 ducks in my freezer is NOT the same thing at all.
I'm pretty damned sure that the last time I checked...there were 12 by some happenstance. I swear! :hammer:

What if your driving home from camp with 36 birds all butchered and wrapped. Isn't that processed?

I didn't read thru all the pages either. This may have been covered. If you go to court you should not be in violation under the law as written. You are still under the pos limit for early season. It doesn't state that the game has to be used before a certain time only that you can have no more than X number in poss. How can they processicute you for over the limit when I can have the early season limit as thats all I've hunted ? See where I'm coming from.

I hunted at a place where it had a special 4-duck limit. I camped there as well. In order for me to take my 8 mallards home I had to store them off-site at a processor in his freezer. I could only shoot 3 mallards/day and had a possession limit of 6.
I payed to have my ducks plucked and frozen. That way I could take home that extra two. Sometimes you have to go through crazy stuff like this.

My father and I used to go to a club and shoot ducks that were farm raised but were wild so to speak.
We'd take home 25 every year on Thanksgiving day. They were frozen and wrapped in paper. Stamped on the paper was the game-farm they came from. Do THOSE count toward possession limit? NOPE! They were all mallards. Tasted like wild ducks too.

Bag limit of ducks

Postby jaysweet3 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 7:20 pm

I hunted Canada. Eight birds x3 add that to my limit here in the states. I should be able to have 36 ducks in my freezer.

It will be interesting when our 400 pounds of sausage is done. 80 pounds of summer sausage a piece, and 20 pounds of sticks each. Them I dropped off everything our group killed in early season. Having polish sausage made.

The thing about this thread that's a bit disturbing is the fact that everyone breaks a law at some time or other. These same people want to act like they are holier than thou because their offence is petty in comparison to yours.

If you have ever sped on the way to go hunting or on the way home you're a criminal. If you've done a "California stop" at a stop sign...you're a criminal. Just go turn yourself in. If you have too many ducks in your freezer I won't tell.

Did you put leaves in a trash bag and then put it in your garbage can just now? (gasp) I think that's illegal.

I freely admit to breaking laws damn near every chance I get. I won't whine about it when caught, but I won't play their silly little reindeer games, either.

I may or may not have shot 52 greenheads in 13 days. I might have eaten the evidence. I maybe gave some ducks away...I cant remember.
I interpret the law just like you do swamp...in the field or transporting to home or camp is when "possesion limit" is applicable.
After that it is meat.

A valid point...in September my possesion limit is TEN CANADA geese.
On Sept 16 goose season ended. Two times zero = zero. Therefore I am in violation if I have any geese at all in my freezer.
I failed to shoot any Canadians this year so far.
Non-issue...or is it?

I sped once.

It should be said that game laws are vague and redundant. Why? If a gw decides he wants you...he WILL get you for something.

"technically" I guess you do since you did not "dispose" of the bird's remains. But you did sign it over to a taxidermist and he has meticulous records that prove when you shot it. But I Dunno....another great question BTW....

So lets just say you are having a GREAT day alone. Suddenly your possession sky rockets even after breakfast is it wrong to call a friend or 7?????

This year, they increased the possession limit to three times the daily limit.

That's more lenient.
But, it's still just as stupid and pointless of a law, as it ever was.

There's no possession limit for Snow Geese killed during the Conservation Order Season.

I guess that I've got me a freezer full of Snow Geese.
Some of them are really small Snow Geese though.............

My point was, that there is no point in having such a thing as possession limits.

It's a stupid law that is without purpose, that cannot be enforced.
It's like having a law that makes it illegal to masturbate.
