I cant believe people on craigslist

Postby T Man » Wed Feb 16, 2011 11:09 pm

Here is the original listing for an ad

hi i have a parts motor would say late 70s erly 80s 9.9 merc for parts or fixing powerhead runs but when you put it in gear nothing happens so i thank it needs a lower unit so im selling as a parts motor with no title good prop if you interisted let me know if motor hasnt sold by friday its going to the scrapper so 75 or best offer thanks and have a nice day

so, I made a "best offer" on a motor that I didnt know if it was scrap at all in an email

Would you take 25 for the motor?

and recieved the following email

already sold for 75 you shark

To which I politely repied

No need for name calling here. Glad you got it sold for what you were asking. You said make an offer or its going in the salvage. I made an offer, which you had the option to POLITELY refuse. I didn't want to buy a motor that you can't prove is more than an anchor for anymore than I had to. Thank you for your time, and next time try showing a little respect.

I know i sound like a total bitch crying about this on the internet, I just cant believe some peoples attitudes.

I dont know man, I would have taken being called a shark as compliment. Maybe being called a shark around your neck of the woulds is an insult but around here it generally means youre extremely good at what you do.

I would have taken it as, this guy saying you must be someone who knows how to make deals.

Card shark- someone whos good at playing cards

pool shark- someone who smokes people on the pool table.

loan shark- someone who gives a loan and then comes after you to get it back...with interest

these are just two that come to mind

Maybe I'm missing something. You post $75 OBO, the guy offers $25, thinking you'll counter offer at $50. You meet in the middle. This is a normal business practice.

Not exactly a literary icon is he?

My last reply would have been, "Hey genius. Congratulations on the sale. Most people with an IQ over 4 go ahead and remove the listing once the item is sold. Perhaps Momma-Sister could help you with that?

seriously, if something like this bothers you, you have a real long road ahead of you
Buy it, use it, break it, fix it,
Trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it,
Charge it, point it, zoom it, press it,
Snap it, work it, quick - erase it,
Write it, cut it, paste it, save it,
Load it, check it, quick - rewrite it,
Plug it, play it, burn it

To tell you the truth, I like the salesman's response. It really got you going. He achieved his purpose.
In a free society, it is not the obligation of the citizen to prove to the government that he is a good person. It is the obligation of the government to prove to the rest of the citizenry that the citizen is a bad person, with probable cause.

:ditto:

If you want $75 firm, then just say it. If you put OBO, you are going to get offers. Please never use Craigslist or Ebay again. :hi:

And if this was all just a practical joke, you got me.

Are there really that many $75 outboards out there? This seems to be an epidemic.

Ok, no, this was not a joke. I was being a total bitch about this guy. My point is, if you say obo, youre gonna get all kinds of offers. You cant be offended by them, and like someone said, I was hoping to end up at about 50 bucks on it.
