To all y'all
You boys have done some fishing this year. Nice!

Jehler,
why is that a redneck rig? Looks like you got everything a fishing boat on the Great Lakes needs. I'd love to be able to chase salmon and lake trout on the Great Lakes every weekend. That's awesome!

it does have almost everything, except length, beam and freeboard :lol3:

we are in some pretty big water up here vinnie, granted we have been to canada and back on superior in that little boat but trying to fish in it in any more than a breeze is an excersice in futility and sometimes dangerous.....still, better than no boat at all. we have a bigger boat but the optimax has issues and I am to cheap to pay sumer rates to get it fixed. Maybe I sould mount some riggers on the barge

Haha! Did they put up a fight or did you drag 'em around for a few miles before you realized they were on?

How's the walleye fishing been? I miss my boat and the fantastic water around TC and the EUP! Gonna steal the boss' boat and see if I can snag some small eyes today on Canyon Ferry. It's not the same as home though

one of them actually released from the rigger  the other's you just notice the slightest odd jiggle in the rod tip, of course you didn't really have to look, just bring them up every time you bump bottom and one will be there (we were dragging some cowbells and a peanut just to prevent a skunking) :lol3: .

the bigger laker released on the downrigger and just as I was about to hand the rod to jr one of the church boards dissapeared and started peeling line off the rod.... let me tell you pulling in a double is a feat in a 14' tin boat. we have been catching fish 3 to one on the longlines and planers, I think the fish have wised up with the clear water we got now. dropped to 17 pound flouro for leaders and that has seemed to give us some better action also.

Havent been out after walley in a coule of weeks, we may hit north lake leelanau tomorrow and drag two lines for lakers and four for walleye. depends on the weather, if it's calm we may hit the bay again for sammies. jr. is dieing to get out the spears and go after whitefish also, maybe a little early though

good luck in the canyon

All smaller keeper sized fish (got to be 73" or bigger to sell) Those pictures are all 75-88" . those fish were all under half hour fight time. the longest fight this year was actually the smallest fish at 75". Sometimes the smaller 80-100" fish fight harder than the 115-120" tuna. Broke one off around 100-110" last week that dumped around 500 yards of drag at 45 pounds on its first run, once that spool gets smaller, the drag increases a crap load. Half spool thats about 80 pounds of drag, the more line they take, you often loosen the drag to compensate for the increase in pressure. I figured we had about 60 pounds of drag before we stopped him, got 10 or 15 cranks on him, started dumping line again, and broke off.

We were fishing for bluefins off of Stellwagen banks a couple of weeks ago and I swear we saw the boat in your pictures.
Is that possible?

I think its anywhere from $18-25?? My buddy does that, he made about 22K in 2 trips last year if Im not mistaken. Not too bad for a 21 yr old. Not to mention he now runs his offshore/nearshore fishing charters.
