ANZAC day

Postby kiwismakebetterhunters » Sun Apr 23, 2006 10:52 pm

Tommorow is ANZAC day, which is a day in New Zealand and Australia which honours the hardship, bravery and sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It originaly pertained to to WW1 where New Zealand had the highest causualty rate per capita of any counry at War. However, these days it is a time to remember all who served and died for there country and the common wealth. This is also a tribute for all men who fought for the free world because without them what a different place we would all be living in.

It sounds very similar to the USAs Memorial day which is the last day of May for us. And we have Vetererans Day on Nov 11, it used be called Rememberance Day, in honor of the those that served in the "war to end all wars", WWI ended that day when the Armistice was signed.

A good quote that comes to mind when reading this.

"All give some, some give all."
The group ended up with 420 birds.

To all who put thier lives on the line for the sake of Freedom, I Feel inadequate in thier presence.

I have so much respect for them I can't even describe it.

As part of our appreciation for those in uniform, our local Knight's of Columbus Council provides Free Food for anyone in Uniform anytime we have an event where providing food is required. Usually a fundraiser for Charity's.

I have never served personally but am completely in awe of those that "Volinteer" to serve, especially in these times.

God Bless all who have served unselfishly for Freedom!

Also, as an American I want to extend much gratitude to our "real" Friends Down Under.

They have always been there when we needed help around the world.

Cheers!

Per capita we have had the highest involvement in the Afganistan war, of which I'm proud. Although our Govt are not involved in the Iraq war most military guys I know would agree to its importance. We also had high casualties in WW2 and we backed the USA in the Vietnam war.
We do owe our lives to Amercans in WW2, because without them we would all be in Japanese slave camps right now!

I was appaled this morning because when I turned on to the so called "National" Radio (which I never really listen to anyway). They had a segment called "poets against war". What a bunch of freaks ,out of all days to voice there BS opinion!!!! :pissed:
