I've got two off of geese, but not on a duck. That is cool, that duck got bling all over it!

I saw this picture couple days ago as well and questioned wether it was legit or not. I'm assuming they took that collar off a goose for the picture. What is the yellow thing on its leg? Looks like a zip tie??

Looks like a zip tie to me too. When I was looking up pics of collars I found several pics of snows with that same blue CB collars on them. Dont know why anyone would want to put a collar on a duck. As you can see in the pic it takes up most of the neck and would make it almost impossible for the duck to fold its neck up to rest from what I can see.

Any bird is subject to being color marked. I've actually seen a coot with a neck band. I would've imagined that the neck band would've been shorter due to the shorter neck of a mallard but who knows.

One of the blinds in our club , shot a group of Canada's two seasons ago. The got four out of five birds. It was a family group , earlier in the season. The interesting part, was that all of the birds, had black zip ties on each leg. Wish I'd taken pictures of the birds. Weirdest thing I've seen.

So does anyone know what the zip ties are for? Could it be that some individual is catching them and puting these on resulting in all of the one legged duck kills the past few years??

saw a teal with a collar...

that really looks like a collar off of a ross goose. but like the teal, i see no point in putting one on any duck..

Blue collars are used on the US side of the Mississippi Flyway. Now, weather they collared a mallard...

Found this on another site.

Species and colors in the joint venture:
White-fronted Goose

◦Red: Alaska and Western Canadian Arctic
◦Blue: Central Canadian Arctic
Small forms of the Canada Goose and the Cackling Goose (formerly a subspecies of Canada Goose)

◦Yellow: Western and Central Canadian Arctic
◦Orange: Eastern Canadian Arctic
Lesser Snow Goose (includes Blue Goose)

◦Red: Wrangel Island Russia and La Perouse Bay, Churchill, Manitoba
◦Blue: Alaska
◦Black: Western Canadian Arctic
◦Yellow: Central Canadian Arctic
◦Green: Eastern Canadian Arctic
Ross' Goose

◦Pale (Quebec) Blue: Central Canadian Arctic
◦Yellow: Eastern Canadian Arctic

I say it's a couple of guys that posted it, or sent it to a buddy to pi$$ him off... but I've been wrong before.

I have seen a few ducks up on WSU campus that have the school's color zip tie on some of the mallards. Maybe I'll talk to the biology department and see if they have something to do with it?
