I'm hearing the same. Was told the marsh to our southwest had good numbers and was waiting for your report. Not sure if they meant across the intracoastal, or not.

Waking up this morning, we were all filled with anticipation and ready for the hunt. Our normal store stop was PACKED with vehicles and hunters. Everyone rushing around grabbing last minute things, glad we weren't one of them. All we needed was a few bottles of water for this WARM mornings hike.

First birds shortly after shooting time was a pair, got both. Next was a single trying to sit on the whirligig. That made three. Next was a twenty bird flock that approached from the south, passing over the blind and dropping into the field to our north side. A quick cadence on the call caused them to hit the brakes and make a hard left. These birds spread out nicely and made a slow, low approach, they were set up perfectly. Well, I sit on the far right in the blind so I started three birds in from the left and called the shot. First shot was a hit, second didn't find its target and the third shot dropped another bird.
I really think the other three had emptied their guns before I fired my last shot, and there were only the two birds on the water. After a moment of silence, the ragging started. We had a good laugh and a good time. We pulled out around 8:10 to avoid the heat, and as always, while riding back to the truck, we stopped to watch a small flock work the decoys.
We will be back out in the morning. Reports for the area are similar to ours with some doing better than others. Not many limits. Our east blind hunters matched our bird count.

I put ginger near the flapper to try to avoid collateral damage :lol3:

We finally have good natural cover for the pit. Wasn't so the last couple of years.

Final day for me and the ginger

A nice northerly breeze greeted us as we exited the truck this morning. It's not so much for the birds, but is nice to keep the mosquitos away, somewhat.

Missed Opportunity
One member of our hunting party was a little late this morning, so I was standing just outside of the pit waiting for him. We were about three to four minutes into shooting time when I heard the wings, then the splash behind me. BIRDS IN THE DECOYS!!! The birds flushed but were not visible to my son and Brody in the blind due to the low light conditions and their low departure altitude. When they did finally see them, range was the issue. Needless to say, I stepped into the pit and loaded my gun.
Bagged birds
Shortly after that episode, two birds came in on the north side, from left to right at low altitude and warp speed. They landed just out of range for a jump shot. Not a minute later, one seemed to come out of nowhere and plopped himself down inda spread. We jumped him… number one.
Shortly after that, my nephew made it to the pit and slipped in. He noticed a single coming from the south…… he took that bird. Number two.
The next four birds came from a flock of eight. They approached from the north, passed over the blind at high speed, and after a toot on the call, whipped around and worked their way in from the south. I was able to pull two out of that bunch and was hoping the same from the others. NOT!!!!
The final show was a pair over the south spread. Both downed.
Not many birds around but it was sure nice to be in da blind again. With the migration just starting, I’m looking forward to the next couple of weekends.
Ginger is packed up and will be indatruck headed to Westtie in Da morning. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Great write up!!! I wish we had a teal season, or that I actually had the time to hunt lol.

Does anyone have problems if I use any of the pictures of the decoy from the thread for website photos, facebook, ect...
