Day 3. Pretty much like Day 2. Although there was a little more shooting off in the distance, so hopefully things are picking up a bit.

I don't wish a slow spell on any duck hunter but I can say this, im sure glad I don't have to follow someone who is flat smoking ducks.. Im sure my weekend will be slow however I did locate a wad of coots, if coots are here maybe big ducks will be. Woodies were stacked a few weeks ago but its 27 here now I will guess they will be gone. Good Luck Spinner these next few days....

I actually had a woodcock fly over Ginger on Wednesday morning. If I knew they were in season and would have ID'ed soon enough to shoot it, I would have shot my first woodcock.

However, now I'm off to try and shoot some ducks and geese.

Well, no birds again today. It was one of those days where the birds won. Didn't see a lot of birds, but got plenty to play. Just couldn't get them that last little bit or I was looking the wrong way or the landed behind me. I think they were screwing with me. I had a two drake mallards look like they were going to land 3 or 4 times and then go around again. It was dead calm most of the morning. I think a little wind and I'd have been in business.

The final insult of the day. I'm picking up my decoys. I have a few full bodies on this little island out in front. I hear some geese. I duck down by the boat, but my gun is back at the blind since this is one you can drive to. I'm standing on the island and the keep coming. The whole flock, 20+ geese were going to land right in front of the blind. They finally see me standing on the island when they are right over top of the blind, less than 20 yards up.

Ginger was doing his part. I just didn't get mine done.

You've been hitting it hard. I give you credit for not getting discouraged. But that's hunting in northern illinois. You're use to it...

I am used to it. This is the toughest period. Another week or so things should pick up.

Two more days with Ginger. Fate will smile on me this weekend.

I hope.

I'm just not sure of where I want to go today. I'd like to get the same blind as yesterday, but I doubt it will be open.

Oh no, what is that I smell.

One more day of hunting with Ginger.

Saw a lot of high flying ducks heading south. So that's a good sign, but absolutely no action.

Saw a lot more geese today, but very few ducks and there was almost no shooting in the area. We had one big flock of geese break up when they saw the flag and we had geese working every which way. It was a lot of fun, but couldn't close the deal.

We had a mute swan fly by the blind at less than 10 yards.

And the day started off with a beautiful sunrise.

Even without getting anything, it was a great day hunting, but
