Glad to see Ginger made the trip safely. My job here is done.

I was supposed to go to Las Vegas on Monday for work, but I ended up not being able to go. My plan was to take Ginger and get a few pictures on the strip. Now that I see how much Ginger likes whiskey. Maybe a trip to Vegas wouldn't have been a good plan.

Good luck.

OK guys opening weekend with Ginger.... the pics..... the hunt...the camaraderie... Lets start at the set up day one, Opening Day no matter what or who or when the first hunt of the year is Always with my dad and father in law. So 5 am we are headed off the ramp all goes great. Get out set up 3 doz decoys and a whirly gig. set up by 6am we have a hour and 45 min to LST. We kick back enjoy the stars crach jokes and talk of past hunts.... about 45 min goes by and boats start piling in we ward them off with the spot light and they stay back 4-5 hundred yards. perfectly ok.

But in comes this one crew no matter what we do they pull in straight across from us 30 min before LST 75 yards across the cove. I hollered over and asked the guy you gonna set up there he yells back I already have last night?????? wasn't a spread here before dark I scouted it... so we decided to not move with time against us we are gonna have to be sure our shots are high. We passed some early birds because steam and fog off the lake we never could see where they were for sure.WTH damn people.... Well by 8 am fog was lifting and despite hollering over at the guys a few times they never hollered back? well low and behold here came a deer hunter out of the woods with a stand on his back.... WTH we could have shot 4 different groups of birds that morning LOL but faith was regained in duck hunting as it baffled me someone would set that close straight across. We talked to the guy a min he was as confused as us that morning he didn't know duck was in and wondered why we were there so early and sat on the bank screwing up his deer hunt with laughter and the occasionally dog command... LOL

We made 3 shots on birds that morning with No kills except 2 coots as we were leaving for the dog to make retrieves. My Phone died Sat morning also so a trip to the istore was in the works.... no phone sat night so sunday morning was a solo hunt I killed 2 teal and a gadwall worked the spread perfectly but nothing to document the hunt.... Sunday went got phone and hunted sunday eve with no birds seen until LST ends I had 3 geese fly right in I wiffed... so New phone 450 bucks new Boots 200 bucks other miscellaneous items needed for opening weekend I was over 750 bucks in my first weekend... NICE for 3 ducks I didn't even get pictures of,,, LOL I will post a few set up pics from sunday eve but sadly no ducks in the pic... do we count the 3 I killed and 2 coots even though no pics?

It's just freaking slow right now. There are people that have their honey holes, but on average, there's just not a lot of birds. Satruday at my club there were about 40 hunters and they took 2 geese, 2 woodies, and 1 gadwall

I got 1 of the woodies. Freaking lucky snap shot when 3 of them went by at mock three. Perfect head shot, just like I intended  :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

So I went deer hunting Sunday. I had the one, 25 yards away, heading right where I wanted him. I must have gotten something on my boots because when he got to where I had walked in, the head popped up, and he went back the way he came.   All I can say is he was a mature buck with very heavy and tall antlers. Couldn't tell 8, 10, or what. Just a lot of mass. Definitely a shooter, but I've never seen a deer that wasn't so I don't know what that means anyways. I only wear those boots for archery, so I don't know what happened. Damn does that suck. He was 10 steps from being where I could take a shot at him, but probably would have let him walk a little more unless he started looking nervous. Man that sucks.

That's hunting man, all part of it. Sorry to hear about the one that almost was but keep at it. Persistence pays off.

I've never gone dove hunting. I've shot a few small game hunting, but never seriously targeted them. I should get out. It looks like a a lot of fun.
