I see how the other half lives and it just reminds me how much my hunting sucks.

Very nice

mitchmc wrote:OK so here we go, ginger is scheduled to arrive on Thursday which is actually the first day of the hunt. that was ok since we still would have 3 more days to hunt over her. As luck would have it Thursday which was our opener after the split was a slam dunk as I expected. my good friends for Louisiana were up Bryan Harris, John Chaisson ( 2x world champ Speck) and Bill Daniels owner of Riceland Custom Calls. we found ourselves in the pit and set up about 4 minutes before legal shooting time. we could see lots of ducks flying and when we entered the field on the argo approx. 10,000 geese took to the skies. as soon as the clock struck 629am the action began with teal, mallards and pintails over the pit. long story short, by 830am we had our 4 man limit of ducks which consisted of a full limit of mallards, full limit of pins, and the rest were teal, widgeon and gadwall. for a total of 24 ducks. needless tosay with the company I was keeping it didn't take long in between the volley of ducks that we worked 3 groups of specks and we got our 8 in no time at all. and as a bonus we scratched out 9 snows. so our total for day 1 was 41

Great write up Mitch!

I have been meaning to ask. What is the coating on Ginger? We have a couple dozen burlap wrapped Herter 72's that have taken a beating over the years. We were going to redo them this winter or next summer and after holding Ginger I would like to do something like that on them.

We've had a nice influx of birds since the last split, so Ginger and the boys may be inda hog heaven this weekend.

Not with a foot of snow and nothing above freezing for 2 weeks. I'll have plenty on the ditches next weekend but not the #'s of a couple weeks ago.

What, no phone service Indacamp for updates?

just made it back in not long ago....
lots of birds Rick....not so much on da weather though... :help: Front rolled through saturday morning at shooting light and the birds were inda air buggin out flying east to get away from it. then the rain hit hard for about 30 minutes...after that, the wind died and fog set in. :fingerhead: Kiss. Of. death.
We hung around until 10:30 with on and off again light rain, in and out of fog. We managed 5 Saturday morning-3 greenwings, 1 redhead, 1 canvasback.

Sunday, we could not even hunt-could not make it to the blind....water did not make it in until about noon. 20-25 knot North wind and a 1.8 tide, water fell the flock out and stayed out. Low was suppose to be -0.4, but the wind blew it out to about -.2.4. guys that went out killed a few birds but it was tough in that wind. One guy almost sunk his boat. 3 grommets on our tarps popped when we got a strong gust of straight line winds. Lots of decoys lost sunday by those that hunted...

Monday DHC member mhn came out to the indacamp to hunt with us, we brushed a blind sunday afternoon after the wind eased up and things were looking good for monday...we were able to get to the blind monday at about 9:30 and could hunt until 2pm before the tide ran us out. Blue bird day calm as can be...We can't get weather like that in june to go offshore fishing!!! We killed 5, 1 full plumed bluewing drake, 3 greenwings and 1 ruddy duck that swam into the deeks. Don't know if a ruddy has been shot over Ginger yet, and I now have one to sample inda pot.
We packed it up and came in today...High pressure and fair weather has set in for the next 3 days...full moon and no clouds has the birds feeding at night and flying out into the gulf to rest during the day. The birds are there but conditions are the worst possible for hunting there.
On a brighter note, Indawoods managed not to cut himself. We ate very well as usual (LOTS of pics. to come later), and we have been invited by Bayouboy to hunt with him tomorrow in some timber....so I will bring a pen for him to sign the deek and maybe we can do some more killin over Ginger.....

pics. later after I unpack...
