So it has been asked by steve-O...
Can someone explain how to read the spreads? I'm not a gambler myself, just curious...

pretty easy really for instance, like was mentioned, texas tech -5.5. ok that means, one would take texas tech to win, but they must win by 6. if they win by 5, you lose. the half point keeps it from being a push, which is no winner no loser, for instance if the spread was -5, and they won by 5 on the nose, it would result in a push.

same goes the other way, if you take a team + points, that team can lose the game within that number, and you still win the bet.

most everywhere and everybody is 10% juice, which means, you have to risk 110 to win 100.

in a nutshell, there is your beginners guide to gambling on football

O.K., so the "juice" is the bookies take? how does that work?

easy...if you call and make a 100 dollar bet....if you win, he pays you 100 dollars. no different than a bet amongst friends. however.......if you lose, you owe him 110 dollars.

if you win there is no juice paid to either side, if you lose, you pay the bookie the 10%, which is why i say risk 110 to win 100.

Like in horse racing...
Horse A has odds of 30-1....so if you win, you get $30 for every $1 you put up....

they have a similiar style of play yes, called money lines. its all about win or loss. no point spreads. very odd for any locals to play this, mostly online offshore, or in vegas.

its all about being a favorite or underdog. like, if alabama was playing somebody like harding, they would naturally be the favorite, therefore making them give up points. the professional oddsmakers in vegas will set a number that they think the margin will be. they will be spooky close most all the time. that number will also vary thru out the week as money starts coming in on one side or the other

Can I bet on whether the refs will throw a holding call on the offensive line?

That tech line is going to be moving. Tech starting a true freshman. SMU is playing Garrett Gilbert, I have no idea how he I still playing. Most of you SEC fans might remember making his college debut vs Bama in the NC. Played for Texas.

Gonna check it before I make the play tomorrow.

If I made a bet and won, I'd end up living in a box. I CANNOT gamble. I always think, "this next time I'll win it all back." Then I walk away with nothing at the end of the night.
