First hunt of the season with my boy

Postby Erich_870 » Sun Sep 29, 2013 6:15 pm

My son is still little but he begs me to tag along. For the past couple of years I've made a point to pick a dry day in the beginning of the season to take him out.

The forecast was for rain, but it held off long enough for us to get out for a couple of hours. It was a nice gentle start to the season and he had a great time. Not only did he have a duck to play with while we waited for more, but he found a lost decoy and a dead seagull on the hike back. He was in heaven. :grooving:

He's a great little kid and my hunting buddy. It is a double edged sword though when he's crying crocodile tears at the door when I leave for hunts later in the season when he just wouldn't be comfortable. Bringing some birds home seems to make everything better though.

Nice. Got to start early

"that duck is yours"

Reminded me when I shot grandpa's decoy at LST thinking it was alive. :lol3:

I was an anxious kid at 9.

:clapping: Well done. Ive been taking my boy with me for about 8 or 9 years now. Hes 16 now. He's my go to hunting buddy now. Can always count on him to go hunting with me. Ive also got a 13 year old that likes to go quite a bit too. His dad used to go to school with my wife and owns the land we like to hunt. Good kid but doesnt take the cold weather to well. Ive been with him for his 1st goose and 1st turkey. Hopefully we get the 1st duck and deer this year. Have fun with your boy, teach him to hunt safe, and cherish the time with him. It goes quick. My boys talking about joining the service after schools done. Thats gonna suck for me.

Thanks guys!

It's great to hear all of your hunting stories with your kids so I'm excited to be able to start sharing some of mine. :grooving:
