Goose missing lower beak

Postby LETEMWORK21 » Thu Oct 24, 2013 8:24 pm

Tonight I shot this goose and realized that it's lower beak was missing I figured I shot it off, upon closer inspection it was an old wound that was healed and scarred up. What a life that things had the few months/ weeks whatever, it's extremely thin and I'm sure I did it a favor. Never seen it before ill post pics.

Never seen a beak shot off, crazy that it wasn't hit elsewhere as well. We shot a teal last weekend that was missing a leg.

It happens. Looks as though the wound has healed up and been there a while. imagine it was pretty hard for that goose to eat with a bill like that though.

Yea that's what I was thinking, he could prolly only scavenge whatever was floating in the water cuz everything else would just fall thru, sucks to see but it happens.

How do you see to shoot them at night well enough to shoot their lips off?

About 30 yrs. ago we had a Mallard hen that was missing about 1/3rd of her lower bill, &, it did not slow her down one bit on the cracked corn we threw out for the ducks during the summer. Did not matter, in the river or on the lawn.
