Contractors - I need a new sump pump

Postby OmegaRed » Fri Oct 25, 2013 8:16 am

Any good brand/material(cast,plastic,SS) recommendations? I need a new one, probably gonna get battery backup as we have aspirations of finishing the basement in the future. The one that was in there was submersible; should I stick with that or are there any pros to pedestal style?

Only thing I could read off the label was 8amp, so I'm assuming its 1/4hp from what is available online. Thanks

Place up by Cleveland says you can earn up to 300 a month. I could do it to buy a new A-5

My freshman year of college I would go twice a week. About $60 a week.

Giving plasma is different. They pump blood out one arm separate the plasma out then put your blood back in the other arm

How big a sump hole do you have? And how often does it run at peak use. Small diameter holes and the tether type float switch can cause some propblems with the float hanging up. The advantage of a submersible over a pedestal is if there is a chance the pump can get overwhelmed it will still operate under water where the pedestal will not. If the pedestal type can't stick at least a foot above the sump hole I'd go with a submersible. The slide floats (on a rod) seem to be better than the tether floats. In most cases you can get more range from the slide float (without hanging up on something). Pumps tend to last longer if they don't cycle as frequently. I like to see them pump out at least 15-20 gallons per cycle if the sump hole is big enough to accomodate that. One problem I have seen with submersibles having any cast parts is that if they are only partially submerged for extended periods of time they seem to rust out in a couple years. lastly don't downsize the piping. The GPH output is based on using the appropriate sized pipe. downsizing not only reduces the output but makes the pump work harder.

We deal with flooding almost every spring and often I see people with 2-3 pumps running, all connected to 1/2" or 3/4" garden hoses. 1 pump with a 1 1/2" hose or pipe would pump more water than 3 with garden hoses on them. I have always considered the 1/4hp on the small size, especially if they run a lot.
