Waterfowl All Purpose Blinds - Research

Postby 1atjensen » Thu Nov 07, 2013 11:03 am

Hey waterfowl hunters - I am doing some research for a potential future all purpose water blind. I have done some research on the current blinds out there but was wondering if I could get some real expert opinions and ideas. Could you tell me what are the must haves with a blind.

I have heard:
- Shell holder on the doors for easy reloading
- Zipper at the bottom for easy clean out.
- Break down and folding is a must for easy transportation
- Mesh on the doors for view the birds as they circle.
- Side zippers for flagging
- Inside pockets
- Good internal cage systems for more room.
- Waterproof flooring

What else would you love to see a blind have as part of its setup/components.

I like the heated idea. Maybe a small rechargeable battery pack and a add on heater - just enough to keep the toes ward.

Also needs to have many loops for putting in field camo.

I also wouldn't mind to have more storage. Maybe a fold out flap on the sides to help it look like a mound in the field rather than a big box.

Waterproof!

Wet socks are the only thing more miserable than laying in a layout blind during a rainstorm.

Ohio requires all hunting trips to include an Easy Bake Oven.

I don't fully understand how a blind can be "all purpose".

In what ways could you possibly be using a layout blind other than laying in it? Do you host small, intimate wine parties in it? Do you pack clothes in it like a suitcase? Do you use it as an umbrella on your way to work?

That better be a LARGE blind if you plan on having her in it.

Based on the majority of Americans being obese I recommend the following:
-Industrial strength spring backrest
-Spring loaded blind doors
-64 oz big gulp size cup holder
-sqare cupholder for snacks with condiment holder for dipping
-call holder hanging from the door so it dangles in front of your face
-bodily gas quick release vents

I expect royalty checks

One glitch.
Said dangly call holder would be a call holder but for the first time, when spring loaded blind doors a released the holder that dangles will become a call smasher/launcher otherwise sounds like a great blind. :sarcmark:

Very light weight and fold small enough to pack on your back.
waterproof... not water resistant
Green grass camo, hell with that mossy oak or corn field.
AND!!!! enough room for a 100# Lab.

You could put the call holder on a retractable cord. That way went you let go of the call it just pulls the call up against the blind door. Keeps the call out of the way unless your using it but also makes it easily accessible.

I have to say here. Someone thinks that putting a zipper at the bottom of a water blind is a good idea? Really? One of the dumber ideas I have heard. Anyone here hunt on clean sand or clean rock bottoms all the time? One muddy day and that zipper is done. One saltwater day and it is done.

Waterproof duck blind? :lol3: :lol3: :lol3: Guys can' even be talked into putting their expensive decoys into slotted bags and someone thinks they will make the effort it takes to keep the blind waterproof? :lol3: Any company that claims it has a waterproof blind had better not have a warranty on it. They will go broke due to 100% returns on their product the first year. I spent enough time in the Army using waterproof equipment to know there is no such thing. Duck hunters are far more abusive of equipment than soldiers are, and soldiers treat their equipment very badly at times.

To the OP, you need to remember the wish list here is just that. A wish list.
